Specialty Doctor in Trauma & Orthopaedics
NHS Ayrshire & Arran
Location: University Hospital Crosshouse (with some sessions at University Hospital Ayr)
We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and motivated Specialty Doctors in Trauma & Orthopaedics to join our dynamic and expanding team within NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-established, supportive department, delivering high-quality trauma and elective orthopaedic care across modern facilities.
The successful candidates will contribute to a comprehensive Orthopaedic service, including trauma care, elective surgery, outpatient clinics, and ward-based care, supported by a strong multidisciplinary team.
The Trauma & Orthopaedic service comprises:

22 Consultants, supported by Associate Specialists, Specialty Doctors and trainees

A wide range of sub-specialty interests including arthroplasty, sports injuries, paediatrics, upper limb, and foot & ankle
-
95 inpatient beds at University Hospital Crosshouse and elective capacity at University Hospital Ayr
-
Dedicated trauma theatres, elective theatres, day surgery and outpatient services
The service is part of the West of Scotland Major Trauma Network, with ongoing development and modernisation.
The post will include:

Management of patients in clinic, theatre and ward environments

Participation in trauma and elective operating sessions
-
Delivery of outpatient and fracture clinics
-
Contribution to teaching, training and supervision of junior staff
-
Participation in a non-resident on-call rota (currently approx. 1:13 weekday, 1:6.5 weekend)

A typical week may include:

Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) time

You will have:

Full GMC registration with licence to practise

At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including 2 years in Trauma & Orthopaedics (ST3 level or above)
- Strong clinical, communication and team-working skills
Desirable:

MRCS or equivalent

Experience in teaching, audit or research
