We’re looking for a qualified, hands on and organised Financial Accountant to join our finance team and help keep day to day finance operations running smoothly across the group.
This is a key role for someone who enjoys being close to the detail, keeping deadlines on track and supporting a small team. You’ll manage core finance activity including purchase ledger, sales ledger, banking, reconciliations, payment runs, month end working papers, cash flow reporting and payroll support.
You’ll also work closely with the Group Accountant, external accountants and teams across the business to make sure our financial information is accurate, timely and well controlled. You’ll also manage a small team of Accounts Assistants.
What you’ll be doing
As Financial Accountant, you’ll be responsible for managing daily finance operations across the group, ensuring transactions, reconciliations, reporting and controls are delivered accurately and on time.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing day to day finance activity, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, banking, payment runs and reconciliations.
- Preparing month end working papers across bank, stock, prepayments, accruals, deferred income, fixed assets, creditors and VAT.
- Supporting with management accounts, journals, variance analysis and reports for review.
- Managing cash flow reporting, payment schedules and intercompany reconciliations.
- Supporting payroll processing, postings and related reconciliations.
- Preparing VAT and other tax information for review, including international reporting where needed.
- Supporting audits and external accountant queries with accurate files and clear working papers.
- Line managing the Accounts Assistants, setting priorities and supporting their development.
- Resolving supplier, customer and internal finance queries, escalating issues early where needed.
- Keeping procedures up to date and identifying improvements to controls, accuracy and speed.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a qualified accountant and someone with strong finance operations experience who is confident across month end support, reconciliations and transactional finance within a fast moving e-commerce environment.
You’ll be a great fit if you have:
- Strong experience in finance operations, month end support and reconciliations.
- Qualified accountant status
- Confidence across purchase ledger, sales ledger, bank, VAT, payroll support and balance sheet controls.
- Strong Excel and finance system skills, with experience using e-commerce platforms such as Shopify being beneficial.
- Experience working with e-commerce sales channels, payment providers, stock movements and high volume transaction data would be advantageous.
- Excellent attention to detail and a highly organised approach.
- Experience managing or supporting a small team.
- The ability to set priorities and keep work moving in a busy environment.
- Clear communication skills with suppliers, colleagues and non finance stakeholders.
- A practical, calm and improvement focused approach to problem solving.
