Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead our financial management efforts. In this vital role, you will oversee all accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support strategic decision-making. Your expertise will help maintain the financial health of our organization while fostering continuous improvement in our financial processes.
Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the company’s finance function
- Manage sales and purchase ledgers, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
- Monitor and reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts
- Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts
- Prepare and monitor cash flow forecasts and provide regular financial updates to the Directors
- Assist with annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting
- Monitor business performance, costs and profitability, highlighting any areas requiring attention
- Collate wage information and commission claims
- Complete and submit quarterly VAT returns
- Prepare draft year-end accounts and liaise with external accountants
- Ensure financial procedures and controls are maintained effectively
- Provide financial reports, analysis and information to the Directors to assist with business planning and decision-making
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting and efficiency
- Work closely with colleagues across the business to gather and understand financial information
- Ensure deadlines and statutory financial requirements are met
Experience
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Management Accountant, Senior Accountant or similar role
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes
- Experience managing or taking responsibility for a company’s finance function
- Experience preparing management accounts, cash flow forecasts and VAT returns
- Experience with year-end accounts and working with external accountants
- Experience using Sage 50 or similar accounting software
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to non-financial colleagues
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently while also being an integral part of a small team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to take responsibility for an important area of a successful, established business.
You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Directors and play an important role in providing financial insight and helping to support the continued growth and development of MB Digital.
We are looking for someone who is proactive, commercially minded and takes pride in getting things right, with the confidence to take ownership of the finance function while remaining hands-on when required.

Job Type: Full-time, based at our office in Kendal
Salary: Competitive salary package for the successful applicant dependent on experience.
Holiday Entitlement: 25 days plus bank holidays.
