Locum Specialist Occupational Therapist – Specialist Education
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Locum Specialist Occupational Therapist to join a multidisciplinary clinical team supporting children and young people across two specialist education settings in the Southampton area.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist looking for a rewarding locum role within a well-established therapeutic environment, where you'll work alongside experienced clinicians and education professionals to help children achieve positive outcomes.
The Role
As a Locum Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will provide specialist assessments, intervention planning and therapeutic support for children and young people with a range of additional needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Neurodivergent profiles
- Developmental trauma
- Learning disabilities
Working collaboratively with teaching staff, families and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will manage your own caseload and deliver evidence-based occupational therapy interventions that promote independence, participation and wellbeing.
You will work across two specialist education sites, providing a flexible, responsive therapy service while supporting staff through consultation and therapeutic guidance where required.
About the Service
The role covers two specialist day schools supporting children aged 4–16 years with additional educational and therapeutic needs. The schools provide highly supportive, child-centred environments where clinical and education teams work together to maximise each pupil's potential.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current HCPC registration
- Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)
- Previous experience working with children or young people with autism, SEMH, learning disabilities or neurodivergent needs
- Experience completing functional assessments and delivering therapeutic interventions
- Strong clinical reasoning and report writing skills
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of sensory processing, motor development and functional independence
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice
- Knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional record keeping
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites
Desirable
- Three or more years' post-qualification experience
- Additional training in Sensory Integration, Developmental Trauma or related specialist fields
- Previous experience working within specialist education settings
