Drive the school run. Keep the school holidays. Get paid every week of the year.
Are you tired of being treated like just another driver or a number on a payroll?
Look no further.
Travel Xpress Ltd is a friendly, family-run coach company based in Bradford. Our drivers are at the heart of what we do, and we believe good people deserve to be recognised, listened to and treated with respect—not managed as numbers on a rota.
If you want a dependable driving job with a genuine work–life balance, regular weekly income and approximately 12–13 weeks without normal contracted duties, this could be exactly what you have been looking for.
What makes this role different?
- £22,880 guaranteed basic annual salary
- £440 gross basic salary paid every week across all 52 weeks
- Regular Monday-to-Friday school work
- Approximately 12–13 weeks without normal contracted duties
- No weekend work unless you choose to accept it
- No reduction in your regular basic salary during school holidays
- Potential to earn over £30,000 through additional work
- Permanent, stable employment
- A family-run company where drivers are known and valued
Your basic salary is spread evenly across the year, so you continue receiving your regular £440 gross weekly payment during school holidays. All overtime and additional hours are calculated separately each week and added to your basic weekly salary.
No summer pay drought. No wondering what next week’s basic wage will be. Just a dependable weekly income throughout the year—with the opportunity to earn more when you want it.
Your working pattern
The contracted position provides eight paid hours per school day, Monday to Friday, normally divided between morning and afternoon duties:
- Approximately four paid hours in the morning
- Approximately four paid hours in the afternoon
- A genuine unpaid break between duties
The midday break is your own time. You can go home, attend appointments, get your life admin done or simply relax—you are not required to remain at the depot or perform unpaid work.
You are paid from the start to the finish of each allocated duty. The only unpaid period is the genuine break between your morning and afternoon duties.
The contracted year consists of 190 school days, two designated training days and 28 days of paid annual leave.
Additional earning opportunities
This role provides an excellent work–life balance, but we are also looking for someone who is willing to help the team when additional work is reasonably required.
During the school term, up to 10 additional weekday hours may be scheduled and communicated in advance. All additional hours are paid separately and added to your basic weekly salary.
A driver averaging eight additional hours during each of the 38 school weeks could earn approximately:
- £3,952 in additional term-time pay
Once your annual leave has been protected, further voluntary work may also be available during school holidays. Working up to 6.4 additional weeks could provide approximately another £3,328.
This creates potential annual earnings of approximately £30,160.
Additional earnings are not guaranteed and will depend on work availability, the hours accepted and compliance with drivers’ hours and working-time requirements.
School-holiday and weekend work is entirely voluntary. You can enjoy the time away from work, increase your earnings by accepting additional duties, or choose a balance between the two. We do require drivers to be flexible and help out where they can.
What you will be doing
This is an important and trusted position. Pupils, parents and schools rely on our drivers to operate safely, professionally and punctually every day.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Operating an allocated school service safely and punctually
- Providing pupils with a calm, welcoming and professional journey
- Completing legally required vehicle walk-around checks
- Reporting defects, damage or safety concerns promptly
- Following the allocated route, timetable and passenger arrangements
- Ensuring relevant seatbelt and safeguarding procedures are followed
- Communicating professionally with passengers, schools and the operations team
- Accurately recording vehicle checks, incidents and other required information
- Complying with tachograph, drivers’ hours and company procedures
- Cleaning the vehicle upon return and leaving it clean, presentable and ready for its next duty
- Completing all required end-of-duty vehicle tasks
- Treating the vehicle, passengers and fellow employees with respect
Reliability and punctuality are essential. A school service cannot simply wait for a driver who has not arrived, and children and schools depend on us being where we need to be, when we need to be there.
What you will need
You must have:
- A full Category D PCV driving licence
- A valid Driver CPC qualification card
- A valid digital tachograph card
- A professional and safety-conscious attitude
- Excellent reliability and timekeeping
- The ability to communicate calmly and professionally
- A good understanding of drivers’ hours and tachograph requirements
- A willingness to assist with reasonable, pre-planned additional work during school terms
- A commitment to safeguarding children and providing excellent passenger service
Previous experience as a PCV, coach, bus or school-transport driver would be beneficial, but we are equally interested in the right attitude, professionalism and willingness to become part of the team.
Appointment will be subject to satisfactory licence checks, references, confirmation of fitness to drive and an Enhanced DBS check arranged by the company.
