Overview
To lead, coordinate, and improve health and safety management across three production facilities within a composite manufacturing environment. The role will provide practical and administrative support to ensure the business meets its legal obligations, reduces operational risk, and maintains safe working practices for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
The Health & Safety Lead will take ownership of core compliance systems, including risk assessments, COSHH, PUWER, training records, first aid provision, audit schedules, and general health and safety improvement activity.
Responsibilities
1. Health & Safety Compliance
- Support the business in meeting its duties under health and safety legislation and internal company standards
2. Risk Assessments
- Complete, review, publish, and manage risk assessments across the business
- Develop and maintain individual machine risk assessments
- Ensure risk assessments remain current and are reviewed following change, incident, or process update
- Work with managers and supervisors to implement appropriate controls
3. COSHH Management
- Maintain COSHH assessments for all hazardous substances used on site
- Develop and manage the company COSHH register
- Ensure Safety Data Sheets are current, accessible, and linked to assessments
- Support safe storage, use, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials
4. PUWER and Equipment Registers
- Develop and maintain PUWER registers for plant, machinery, and equipment
- Support equipment compliance, inspections, and record keeping
- Work with engineering and production teams to ensure machinery-related safety documentation is maintained
5. Training and Competence
- Maintain and administer the company training matrix
- Track training completion, refresher requirements, and competency gaps
- Coordinate health and safety training, inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions
- Support managers in ensuring employees are trained and competent for their roles
6. First Aid and Welfare Provision
- Audit and maintain first aid kits, eye wash stations, and related emergency supplies across all sites
- Ensure expired, damaged, or contaminated items are replaced promptly
- Support the management of first aider coverage and records
- Monitor standards relating to welfare and emergency response readiness
7. Sharps / Blood Bin Administration
- Manage arrangements for blood and sharps bins, including placement, servicing, collection, and records
- Ensure compliance with relevant waste handling and disposal requirements
8. Alarms and Emergency Preparedness
- Support management of site alarm systems, testing records, and emergency arrangements
- Help coordinate evacuation planning, drills, and emergency response processes
- Ensure relevant checks and records are maintained
9. RAMs and Contractor Support
- Support the review and management of RAMs documentation
- Maintain RAMs registers where required
- Assist with contractor health and safety controls and documentation
10. Audit and Inspection Management
- Create and maintain a structured health and safety audit schedule
- Carry out audits, inspections, and compliance checks across all three facilities
- Record findings, assign actions, and track close-out
- Support preparation for customer, insurer, and regulatory inspections
11. Incident Support and Continuous Improvement
- Support incident, near miss, and hazard reporting processes
- Assist with investigations and follow-up actions
- Identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement
- Support delivery of small health and safety improvement projects, such as storage, containment, or facility-related issues
- Maintain and improve health and safety systems, procedures, records, and controls across all three sites
- Act as a key point of contact for day-to-day health and safety matters
- Promote a positive health and safety culture across the business
Key Deliverables

Person Specification
Essential Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a health and safety role within manufacturing, engineering, or a similar industrial environment
- Experience of managing or supporting:
- Risk assessments
- COSHH assessments and registers
- PUWER registers
- Training records / training matrix management
- Site inspections and internal audits
- First aid and emergency preparedness arrangements
- Practical understanding of day-to-day health and safety requirements in a production environment
- Experience of working across multiple departments and supporting line managers
Essential Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
- Good working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
- Competent in Microsoft Office and administrative record management
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
- Experience within composite manufacturing, chemical handling, or similarly regulated manufacturing environments
- IOSH membership
- Experience across multi-site operations
- Knowledge of PUWER, COSHH, RAMs, and audit systems
- Investigation training or experience
- First aid, fire safety, or environmental awareness qualifications
