L&I Tiny Treasures Childcare is a warm, family-run, home-based childcare setting providing high-quality care and early education for children aged 0–4 years. We are looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Self-Employed Childminding Assistant to join our setting and support us in providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.
L&I Tiny Treasures Childcare are registered with Tiney (an Ofsted-registered childminding agency).
Position Details
Role: Self-Employed Childminding Assistant
Location: Sittingbourne, Kent
Travel Requirement: Applicants must reside within a 15-mile radius of Sittingbourne, Kent
Flexible Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 6:00pm
Working Pattern: Term-time only, based on Early Years funded childcare term dates (these differ from standard school term dates).
Rate: From £13.00 per hour
About the Role
As a Self-Employed Childminding Assistant, you will work alongside the childminder to support the delivery of high-quality childcare and early education for children aged 0–4 years.
The successful applicant will play an important role in supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing through engaging activities, positive interactions and responsive care. You will need a strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework, safeguarding responsibilities and best practice in early years childcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Support children’s learning and development in line with the EYFS Framework.
- Create and participate in engaging age-appropriate activities that support children’s development across all areas of learning.
- Build warm, positive and nurturing relationships with children and families.
- Support children’s daily routines, including meals, personal care, toileting and sleep routines where appropriate.
- Support children’s daily routines, including sleep and rest periods.
- Supervise nap times safely while following current safer sleep guidance, individual sleep needs and setting procedures. Maintain a calm and reassuring environment during rest periods and communicate any relevant updates or concerns to the childminder.
- Encourage children’s independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
- Support indoor and outdoor play experiences.
- Maintain a safe, clean and stimulating childcare environment.
- Follow safeguarding procedures, health and safety requirements, confidentiality and setting policies.
- Support with settling-in sessions for new children joining the setting.
- Welcome prospective families by supporting parent visits and showing families around the setting.
- Assist with child collections and handovers, ensuring children are welcomed and information is communicated professionally with parents and carers.
- Work collaboratively with the childminder to provide consistent, high-quality care.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be self-employed and responsible for their own Income Tax and National Insurance contributions.
- Have previous experience working with children aged 0–4 years.
- Have a good working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework.
- Have a good understanding of safeguarding children procedures and responsibilities.
- Be confident supporting children’s learning, development and daily routines.
- Reside within a 15-mile radius of Sittingbourne, Kent.
- Hold, or be willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS Check (Child Workforce).
- Hold a valid Paediatric First Aid Certificate, or be willing to obtain one before commencing work.
- Hold Safeguarding Children Training, or be willing to complete this before commencing work.
- Provide Three satisfactory references including two from previous employers.
- Have the legal right to work in the UK.
- Please note: L&I Tiny Treasures Childcare are registered with Tiney, an Ofsted-registered childminding agency. Successful applicants must complete Tiney’s registration and suitability checks before commencing work.
- Successfully complete all required Tiney pre-engagement registration, safeguarding and suitability checks.
**Recruitment Process**
Our recruitment process has two stages:
Stage 1 – Face-to-Face Interview
Shortlisted candidates will attend an interview to discuss their childcare experience, EYFS knowledge, safeguarding understanding and suitability for the role.
Stage 2 – Tiney Registration & Pre-Engagement Checks
Successful candidates must complete all required Tiney registration checks, documentation, safeguarding requirements and training before starting work.
**Please note: Any offer to work with L&I Tiny Treasures Childcare is conditional upon successful completion of all required Training, checks and approval through Tiney. No work can commence until the registration process has been completed.

- This is a self-employed contractor role only.
- Term-time only, based on Early Years funded childcare term dates, which differ from standard school term dates.
- The successful applicant will be responsible for managing their own tax and National Insurance obligations.
- Applicants are responsible for maintaining their own professional development and required qualifications.
