Join Our Team as an Early Years SENCO
We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and experienced Early Years SENCO to join our friendly and supportive nursery team.
This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who is passionate about inclusion and committed to ensuring that every child, including children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), receives the support, care and opportunities they need to thrive.
As our SENCO, you will work closely with children, families, practitioners, the nursery management team and external professionals to ensure that children with additional needs are identified early and receive high-quality, individualised support.
About the Role
You will have an important role within the nursery, working directly with children with SEND while also supporting and developing the wider team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Working directly with children with SEND, providing targeted support based on their individual needs
- Identifying children who may require additional support and helping to ensure appropriate interventions are put in place
- Supporting practitioners to develop inclusive practice and meet the individual needs of children
- Providing guidance, coaching and training to team members around SEND and inclusive practice
- Supporting Room Leaders and practitioners with observations, assessments and planning for children with additional needs
- Completing and supporting applications for additional funding and resources
- Supporting the completion of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) applications and related documentation
- Working closely with parents and carers, ensuring they are involved in their child’s development and support
- Liaising with external professionals and agencies, including speech and language therapists, health visitors, educational professionals and other specialists
- Attending and contributing to meetings with professionals and outside agencies
- Supporting the Manager, Deputy Manager and Room Leaders with SEND-related matters
- Helping to ensure the nursery meets its responsibilities in relation to SEND and inclusion
- Keeping accurate, confidential records and ensuring documentation is maintained to a high standard
- Supporting the implementation and review of individual support plans
- Monitoring children’s progress and helping the team adapt their approach where necessary
- Promoting a positive culture of inclusion throughout the nursery
- Keeping up to date with relevant SEND guidance, legislation and best practice
- Supporting the nursery to continually improve the quality of SEND provision
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about supporting children with additional needs
- Experienced in an Early Years setting and confident working with children with SEND
- Knowledgeable about the SEND Code of Practice and the Early Years Foundation Stage
- Confident communicating with parents, practitioners and external professionals
- Organised and able to manage documentation, funding applications and EHCP processes
- A strong team player who can build positive relationships across the nursery
- Confident providing coaching, guidance and support to colleagues
- Patient, compassionate and non-judgemental
- Proactive, enthusiastic and committed to achieving positive outcomes for children
- Able to work collaboratively with other professionals and outside agencies
- Confident supporting nursery leaders and contributing to wider nursery development

Essential Criteria
- Hold a Level 3 Early Years qualification (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an Early Years setting
- Good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
- Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, equality and SEN/Inclusion
- A caring, reliable and professional approach to working with children and families
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
