Job Introduction
We currently have a temporary Street Works Assistant opportunity available at our Swansea depot for a period of 12 months, subject to review.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Street Works team and develop your knowledge and experience within a key area of the business. Whether you are looking to broaden your skillset or gain experience in a new field, this role offers an exciting learning and development opportunity. Full training and ongoing support will be provided to help you build a strong understanding of street works legislation, processes and systems.
Reporting to the Street Works Team Leader, you will carry out street works administration for National Grid’s operational teams. Using your developing knowledge of street works legislation and your excellent communication skills, you will advise and support both internal and external stakeholders, helping them understand and follow street works processes effectively.
As part of our hybrid working approach, this role offers a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can be considered once your initial training has been successfully completed and will remain subject to business requirements.
Main Responsibilities
- Issuing compliant street works permits & notices and associated notifications in the relevant system on behalf of the operational teams

Being a point of contact for National Grid’s operational teams, to provide guidance and support on street works matters

Liaising with Highway Authorities regarding any aspect of National Grid’s Street works activities

Liaising with National Grid’s contractors regarding street works activities and performance
-
Dealing with non-compliances issued by Highway Authorities, including inspections, fixed penalty notices and overrun charges

Raising and paying invoices

Updating systems to ensure all data is recorded accurately

Providing any other information as may relate to street works, as requested.

Attending internal or external meetings virtually or in person to represent the National Grid Streetworks team

Assisting with any internal training as required

Answering general street works calls

Assisting with other tasks within the team

Support the success of the business by contributing to team meetings

Be prepared to travel to internal and external venues to meet with stakeholders as required.
The Ideal Candidate
- Knowledge of Welsh Street works legislation and systems ideally
-
Excellent organisational, communication and customer service skills
-
Strong interpersonal, literacy and numeracy skills.

The ability to prioritise a busy workload

Good general knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Access, Outlook.

Excellent attention to detail.

The ability to plan ahead with a proactive "can do" attitude.

Ideally a full UK driving licence
