As we diversify our portfolio, expand our commercial footprint, and elevate our fleet standards, we are seeking a highly experienced, commercially-minded Transport Manager to take full operational accountability for our HGV fleet, driver safety, and regulatory compliance.
The Role
This is a senior, high-impact leadership role working directly alongside the business directors. You will be handed the reins of our HGV operations with a clear, immediate mandate: implement a rigorous culture of safety to drastically reduce fleet incident rates, maintain absolute regulatory compliance, and aggressively drive new business acquisition to expand our client base beyond core platforms.

Key Responsibilities
1. Safety, Accident Reduction & Training (Top Priority)
- Take absolute ownership of the fleet’s safety record, proactively implementing accident-reduction strategies and defensive driving cultures.
- Conduct thorough accident investigations, liaising directly with insurance providers and third parties to resolve issues rapidly and minimize fleet downtime.
- Oversee high-standard recruitment, onboarding, and continuous performance assessments for qualified PAYE drivers.
- Driver training providers to address behavioural improvements, safe driving practices, and fuel efficiency.
2. Business Development & Commercial Growth
- Actively source, bid on, and secure new haulage contracts to diversify our portfolio.
- Maximise fleet utilisation and revenue using online freight platforms, specifically Amazon Relay Load Board and Haulage Exchange.
3. Fleet, Driver & Operator Compliance
- Manage, maintain, and collate all documentation required to achieve and uphold FORS accreditation and ISO certifications.
- Ensure 100% compliance with Operator’s Licence requirements, VOSA/DVSA guidelines, traffic regulations, and driver hours/tachograph rules.
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring all HGV maintenance (MOTs, PMIs, defect repairs) is completed on time and properly logged.
- Keep tight control over workshop tools, spare parts inventory, damage tracking, and repair management.
Experience & Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- Transport Manager CPC (National or International) is mandatory.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an HGV Transport Management/Logistics role.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience managing and auditing for FORS accreditation.
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience bidding and scheduling via Amazon Relay and Haulage Exchange (or similar freight exchanges).
- A proven track record of implementing robust health & safety policies that successfully reduced fleet accidents.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in business development or contract acquisition.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word & Excel as a minimum).
Desirable Criteria:
- Active FORS Practitioner status.
- Valid HGV Class 1 (Category CE) Licence (highly preferred to demonstrate hands-on industry credibility).
