Full-Time Pharmacist / Independent Prescriber

About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, clinically focused and commercially aware GPhC-registered Pharmacist / Independent Prescriber to join our pharmacy in Enfield.
This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist who enjoys patient-facing work, delivering clinical services and helping to develop a modern community pharmacy. The successful candidate will work closely with the pharmacy team to provide safe, efficient and professional pharmaceutical care.
We are particularly interested in applicants who are already qualified as an Independent Prescriber or who have strong experience delivering NHS and private pharmacy services.
Key responsibilities
● Carry out the safe and accurate dispensing and supply of medicines.
● Perform the Responsible Pharmacist role in accordance with legal and professional requirements.
● Conduct clinical and accuracy checks on prescriptions.
● Provide appropriate clinical advice to patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
● Deliver NHS Pharmacy First consultations and other commissioned NHS services.
● Provide New Medicine Service consultations and blood-pressure checks.
● Support seasonal vaccination programmes, including flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
● Deliver private clinical and prescribing services within your competence.
● Undertake patient consultations, clinical assessments and prescribing where appropriate.
● Identify red flags and refer patients to GPs, urgent care or other healthcare professionals when necessary.
● Maintain accurate clinical and patient records.
● Ensure appropriate safeguarding, confidentiality and information-governance standards.
● Support the management of controlled drugs and other high-risk medicines.
● Review prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, interactions, contraindications and dosage accuracy.
● Provide advice regarding minor illnesses, healthy living and the safe use of medicines.
● Help improve patient access to pharmacy services and increase awareness of available services.
● Support the development and implementation of new NHS and private services.
● Build positive relationships with local GP practices, care providers and other healthcare professionals.
● Supervise and support dispensers, pharmacy technicians, trainees and other members of the pharmacy team.
● Provide coaching, feedback and day-to-day leadership to maintain high standards.
● Support the pharmacy manager with staff training and performance.
● Assist with stock control, procurement, expiry-date checking and minimising wastage.
● Ensure the pharmacy complies with GPhC standards, NHS requirements, standard operating procedures and relevant legislation.
● Participate in audits, clinical governance, incident reporting and continuous improvement.
● Help achieve agreed service, quality and business-development objectives.
Essential requirements
● Registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
● Qualified Independent Prescriber or able to demonstrate relevant prescribing experience.
● Appropriate professional indemnity insurance.
● Strong clinical knowledge and sound professional judgement.
● Excellent communication and patient-consultation skills.
● Ability to work safely, accurately and efficiently in a busy pharmacy.
● Good leadership and team-working abilities.
● Commitment to delivering excellent patient care.
● Understanding of NHS community pharmacy services and professional standards.
● Right to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable experience
● Previous community pharmacy experience.
● Experience delivering Pharmacy First and other NHS clinical services.
● Experience providing private prescribing or clinical services.
● Vaccination training and current accreditation.
● Experience using pharmacy PMR systems.
● Experience supervising and developing pharmacy staff.
● Awareness of pharmacy service targets and business performance.
