The Role
We are looking for an experienced, reliable HGV Class 2 Grab & Backfill Driver to join our team.
This isn't just a driving job — you will be an essential part of our civil reinstatement and box building teams. Your day will split between operating the grab arm to muck away / deliver aggregates, and actively supporting the ground teams with backfilling and site clearing to keep our utility reinstatements moving efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Driving & Operation: Safely operate an HGV Class 2 Grab lorry to transport materials, muck away, and deliver aggregates to various utility sites.
- Grab Work: Competently operate the grab arm around open excavations, overhead services, and tight residential/commercial spaces.
- Backfilling & Ground Support: Actively participate in backfilling trenches and excavations to specification, ensuring sites are left clean, safe, and ready for reinstatement.
- Daily Checks: Complete mandatory daily vehicle and crane walk-around checks, reporting any defects immediately.
- Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with driver hours, tachograph regulations, and health and safety on site.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Driving Licence: Valid LGV/HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence with no more than 6 penalty points (no DR or IN convictions).
- Qualifications: Valid ALLMI / CPCS / NPORS Grab/Loader Crane ticket.
- Driver CPC: Valid Driver Qualification Card (CPC) and Digital Tachograph card.
- Experience: Proven experience operating a grab lorry on utility or civil engineering projects.
- Skills: Strong understanding of backfilling procedures and utility site safety.
- Attitude: A hard-working, team-player attitude. You must be willing to get out of the cab and support the ground crew when required.
- Desirable: Valid NRSWA (Street Works) card.
