Cost Accountant

Overview of the role
To provide accurate and timely cost information to support financial reporting, budgeting and decision-making. The role will focus on standard costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis and supporting operational stakeholders to improve cost visibility and control.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously improve standard costs for materials, labour, and overheads in line with business processes
- Perform variance analysis (e.g. material, labour, overheads) and provide clear commentary
- Support month-end close with accurate cost journals, provisions and reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Ensure accurate recording of WIP movements, job closures, scrap and rework
- Work with operations to understand cost drivers and support cost reduction initiatives
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes for manufacturing costs
- Ensure inventory is valued in accordance with accounting policies
- Assist with audit queries relating to inventory and cost accounting
- Identify opportunities to strengthen cost control, data quality, and reporting processes
- Lead stock take review with external auditors
- Prepare external cost reporting eg regulated pricing reporting (SSRO)
- Support continuous improvement of finance processes and systems
Essential Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience
- Experience in a manufacturing or cost accounting environment
- Strong understanding of standard costing and inventory accounting, BOMS, WIP and stock flows
- Good communication skills with ability to work with non-finance stakeholders
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills
- ERP system experience (e.g. Business Central desirable)
- Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
- Power BI experience (desirable)
This role will be worked over a 4.5 day week; Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:45 and Friday 08:00 – 12:30.
