Chef / Cook – Job Description
Role Overview
We are looking for a reliable, organised, and enthusiastic Chef/Cook to join our busy café team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality food to our menu standards while maintaining an exceptionally clean, safe, and efficient kitchen. You will play a key role in ensuring customers receive consistently excellent food and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook all menu items to a consistently high standard.
- Carry out all food preparation, ensuring ingredients are ready for service.
- Open and close the kitchen, following all opening and closing procedures (following full training).
- Ensure food is presented consistently and meets the café’s quality standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation throughout the kitchen at all times.
- Wash up and clean kitchen equipment, utensils, work surfaces, and appliances.
- Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and food safety regulations, including HACCP procedures.
- Ensure correct food storage, stock rotation (FIFO), date labelling, and temperature checks.
- Monitor stock levels and inform management when ingredients or supplies need replenishing.
- Minimise food waste through careful preparation and portion control.
- Receive and correctly store deliveries.
- Work efficiently during busy service periods while maintaining attention to detail.
- Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service.
- Report any equipment faults, maintenance issues, or health and safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain a positive, professional attitude and contribute to a supportive team environment.
- Be flexible and assist with any reasonable duties required to support the smooth running of the café. This may include waiter/waitressing duties where needed.
Essential Skills & Qualities
- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Understanding of food hygiene and food safety practices - must have valid Level 2 Food Hygiene certification.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- A team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn and undertake further training where required.
- Flexibility with working hours between 8:00-17:00.
- Must be available across any of the 7 days of the week.

Pay: Up to £12.71 per hour
