Together Women provides trauma-informed, gender-responsive support to women across the North of England through a series of Women’s Centres. We offer tailored support with housing, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, addiction recovery, finances, employment and work to reduce women’s contact with the Criminal Justice System.
About NEST
In recognition of the distinct challenges facing young women and girls (YWG), Together Women has developed specialist provision for young women and girls in the Nest programme, in partnership with other specialist organisations. Together Women’s Nest provides a dedicated service for young women and girls (aged 14 to 25) at risk of domestic abuse, school exclusion, exploitation, gang involvement and contact with the criminal justice system.
The Nest Service is designed to enable young women and girls to escape harm and to thrive in their lives and aspirations, by supporting them to build confidence, self-esteem and resilience, manage their health and wellbeing and access and engage with other support services. In addition to dedicated advocacy support, they will be able to access mentoring from Volunteer Peer Mentors with lived experience and a programme of prevention and awareness-raising groups and workshops run out of Together Women’s Women Centres.

Key Accountabilities
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide long term mentoring support to a cohort of young women and girls (aged 14-25) at risk of or experiencing gang involvement, exploitation or contact with the criminal justice system.
- Provide centre-based and outreach support, adopting a young women and girls-centred, strengths-based approach to deliver a range of support and interventions designed to increase awareness and understanding of healthy relationships; reduce risk, build self-confidence and empower young women and girls to assert their rights and make informed choices about future goals.
- Identify and assess the needs, strengths and goals of young women and girls on an ongoing basis. Carry out safety planning and develop, review and support young women and girls in line with individual support plans which seek to address risk of contact with the criminal justice system and exploitation, health and wellbeing, relationships, education, training and employment.
- Identify when young women and girls would benefit from specialist support in relation to ethnicity, culture, religion, language, gender identity, sexual orientation, health and other intersecting aspects of their unique identity. Making referrals as appropriate and ensuring that any discrimination and hardship they may face as a result of their identity is highlighted for further awareness-raising and advocacy by Together Women.
- Proactively assess risks and safety concerns, raising any concerns with the Together Women Service Manager, and ensuring that, where possible, concerns are discussed openly with the young women and girls. Working within local safeguarding frameworks and taking appropriate action to safeguard young women and girls whilst working within a model of empowerment.
- Provide outreach support and advocacy to young women in the community and at Together Women centres with varying multiple complex needs and across each complexity level.
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with a range of professionals (including Social Workers, Schools, Pupil Referral Units, Youth Offending Teams, Police, Health, Education, Jobcentre Plus, Local Authority and local voluntary and community organisations), using advocacy to maximise positive outcomes for young women and girls by participating in multi-agency working and meetings/forums.
- Assist the Together Women Service Manager to develop and maintain links with partner agencies (statutory and non-statutory, including children and young people’s and women and girls’ voluntary services), develop referral pathways for young women and girls and provide guidance and training for agencies and professionals working with young women and girls at risk.
- Work closely with the young women and girls Peer Mentor & Group Coordinator to pair them with Volunteer Mentors, liaising with their assigned mentor to ensure they experience a smooth referral process and receive consistent messaging and complementary programmes of support across the Together Women Service.
- Work closely with the young women and girls Peer Mentor & Group Coordinator to refer young women and girls to group-based interventions which support them to learn about, discuss and reflect on the challenges they have faced and empower them to support each other and move forward with their lives.
- Ensure that Together Women meets contractual obligations, including the swift and accurate record keeping via Together Women’s case management software and any other record deemed necessary.
- Utilise a range of methods to regularly obtain feedback from young women and girls regarding their experiences at all stages of the Together Women Service, sharing and reflecting on feedback with the Together Women Service Manager and staff team, using this to inform the development of new resources and Together Women’s wider ways of working with young women and girls where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate case management records, collate all relevant monitoring and evaluation data, keep the Together Women Service Manager informed of any issues and successes on an ongoing basis and support her in the production of quarterly monitoring and evaluation reports.
- Provide duty cover of the Together Women email inbox and phone line to answer enquiries, assist callers with guidance and support, and process new referrals, with the support of the Together Women Service Manager.
- Support the engagement and attendance of young women and girls at Together Women Centres and activities programme.
- Be responsible for your own personal learning development and keep up to date on research, relevant legislation, policy, practice, and literature relevant to the role. Participate in Together Women’s Service team meetings, peer support, reflective practice and contributing to the development of a culture of open communication and critical reflection within the Together Women Service team.
- Participate in supervision, training and other meetings as required, and assist in the development of services in line with agreed development plan.
- Take a proactive lead on the client case management systems and ensuring the NEST team are competent in using it and being a reference point for any issues

- A strong understanding of the challenges facing young women and girls, including the impacts of gang involvement, exploitation, mental health, domestic abuse and contact with the criminal justice system, and of the practical and emotional support needs specific to this group, including education, confidence and relationship-building.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed gendered approaches in supporting young women facing multiple forms of disadvantage.
