About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and organised Credit Control Assistant to join our finance team in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to develop their career within credit control and gain hands on experience within a busy finance environment.
Reporting to the Credit Control Manager, you will support the day to day credit control function, assisting with cash collection, customer account management, invoice queries and maintaining accurate sales ledger records. You will play a key role in supporting the wider finance team, helping to maximise cash flow, reduce aged debt and maintain strong customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist with the end to end credit control process, ensuring customer accounts are managed effectively and invoices are collected within agreed payment terms.
· Contact customers regarding outstanding invoices through telephone, email and written correspondence.
· Monitor customer accounts and escalate overdue balances or potential issues to the Credit Control Manager.
· Support the review of aged debt reports and assist with improving collection performance.
· Investigate and resolve customer invoice queries by working closely with internal departments.
· Maintain accurate customer account records, ensuring all communication and actions are recorded.
· Assist with cash allocation, account reconciliations and maintaining sales ledger accuracy.
· Support the preparation of credit control reports, aged debt analysis and KPI information.
· Assist with customer account reviews and credit checks where required.
· Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
· Support month end finance activities and ensure deadlines are achieved.
· Ensure compliance with company policies, financial controls and credit control procedures.
Skills & Experience
Essential
· Previous experience within a finance, accounts, administration or customer service environment.
· Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to communicate professionally with customers.
· Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within a busy team environment.
· Good numerical skills and an understanding of basic financial processes.
· Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
· A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop within credit control.
Desirable
· Previous experience within Credit Control, Sales Ledger or Accounts Receivable.
· CICM Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards achieving this qualification.
· Experience using Pegasus Opera accounting software.
· Experience handling customer queries and resolving payment issues.
