Finance Officer
Location: Birmingham City Centre
Salary: £26,000 - £28,000 per annum
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Officer to support the day-to-day financial operations of the business. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, managing cash flow, supporting credit control activities, and providing timely financial reporting to senior management.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of all purchase and sales transactions.
- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up outstanding debts, and support effective credit control procedures.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of receivables and bank accounts.
- Prepare monthly Profit & Loss reports and assist with financial performance reporting to the Board.
- Forecast cash inflows and outflows to support cash flow management.
- Prepare payroll data and liaise with the external payroll accountant to ensure timely salary payments.
- Process and monitor statutory payments including PAYE, Corporation Tax, Council Tax, and other business liabilities.
- Manage regular payments including supplier invoices, utility bills, and staff expense reimbursements.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with Councils, Housing Associations, customers, suppliers, and external accountants.
- Resolve customer and supplier account queries professionally and efficiently.
- Support year-end accounting procedures and liaise with external accountants.
- Complete assigned tasks and achieve monthly KPI targets.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or bookkeeping role.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and credit control.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and financial data analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using accounting software is desirable.
