We’re looking for an Electrical Technician to join our team at the Port of Southampton, helping to keep vital port infrastructure and operations running safely and efficiently.
In this hands-on role, you’ll provide planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of port assets and equipment in a fast-paced, operational environment. From electrical systems to large-scale port infrastructure, your work will be essential to keeping our port moving.
The role is based on a 39‑hour working week, with standard hours of Monday to Thursday 7:30am–4:00pm and Friday 7:30am–3:00pm, alongside participation in an on‑call rota to provide out‑of‑hours support, where call‑outs attract a minimum 4‑hour payment, with additional hours paid at overtime rates.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver a proactive maintenance service to support smooth port operations
Carry out maintenance on a variety of assets, including:
Fire alarm and emergency lighting systems
Mobile harbour cranes and port equipment
Commercial and industrial buildings
Street lighting and high mast systems
Diagnose faults and carry out repairs using electrical schematics
Maintain and repair motors, drives, PLCs and control systems
Provide breakdown cover and support operational requirements, including out‑of‑hours work
Work at height and in environments close to water
About You
Essential:
Qualified to 18th Edition IEE Regulations
City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering (or working towards)
2391 or 2394/2395 testing & inspection (or working towards)
Strong fault‑finding skills using electrical drawings
Knowledge of fire alarm and emergency lighting systems
Full UK driving licence
Flexible approach, including on‑call and out‑of‑hours work
Confident working at height and around water
Strong team player with a proactive attitude
