We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead our software engineering team and oversee the successful delivery of modern web and mobile applications. You will collaborate with product managers, designers, quality assurance engineers and technical specialists to deliver scalable, secure and high performing software solutions that meet client and business objectives.
This position is ideal for an experienced software professional with strong technical leadership, excellent project management skills and a passion for mentoring development teams while continuously improving engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Software Delivery: Lead the planning, development, testing, deployment and maintenance of software projects.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor and support software engineers while encouraging collaboration, accountability and professional growth.
- Technical Planning: Define development priorities, technical roadmaps and resource allocation across multiple projects.
- Project Management: Ensure software projects are delivered on time, within scope and according to quality standards.
- Architecture Review: Work with senior developers to review application architecture and recommend scalable technical solutions.
- Code Quality: Promote coding standards, peer reviews, documentation and software development best practices.
- Agile Delivery: Facilitate sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand ups and retrospective meetings.
- Performance Management: Monitor team productivity, development metrics and project milestones.
- Cross Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product management, UI UX designers, QA engineers and customer stakeholders.
- Risk Management: Identify technical risks, remove delivery blockers and implement mitigation strategies.
- Technology Improvement: Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks and development tools that improve software quality and efficiency.
- Security and Compliance: Ensure applications follow secure development practices and organisational compliance requirements.
- Budget and Resource Planning: Assist with development budgeting, software licensing and recruitment planning.
- Reporting: Prepare progress reports, project updates and engineering performance summaries for senior management.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of software development experience, including at least 2 years leading development teams.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of modern software development using technologies such as .NET, Java, Python, JavaScript, React, Angular, Node.js or similar platforms.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver multiple software projects simultaneously.
- Project Management: Experience working in Agile, Scrum or Kanban development environments.
- Cloud Knowledge: Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform.
- Quality Focus: Strong understanding of software testing, CI CD pipelines, source control and automated deployment.
- Problem Solving: Ability to resolve technical challenges while balancing business priorities and delivery schedules.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non technical stakeholders.
- Organisation: Strong planning, prioritisation and time management abilities.
- Continuous Improvement: Passion for coaching developers and improving engineering processes.
Pay: £42,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
