Dayshift Mig Welder

About the Role
To be responsible for the Welding of structural steel work construction projects within the workshop team, ensuring that the business meets its production/delivery schedule on time. A key responsibility is to ensure our high-quality welding requirements meet client specifications first time, every time. As a fully qualified Mig Welder, you will follow all safety precautions whilst working with various structural steel types, such as columns, beams & rafters, including haunches.
Working hours: 39-hour contract worked over 5 flexible dayshift patterns (all 5 days to be worked) 6:00am-18.00pm Monday to Thursday, 6:00-15.00pm Friday, starting at 6am,7am or 8am. Overtime when available in the week and Saturday morning.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend daily briefings with your supervisor to review the production plan, so that daily targets are clear.
- Ensure all appropriate PPE is worn to enable safe personal protection whilst working. As a minimum; safety footwear, gloves, overalls, eye protection, ear protection and air-fed masks must be worn. Leather gauntlets and welding screens used as appropriate.
- Follow the Daily Procedures as stated in the Work Method Statement which is available at the Workplace Safety Station. Also, check Risk Assessments where required.
- Comply with all Daily Pre-Shift and Post-Shift checks, reporting any defects immediately.
- Follow the Engineering drawings to weld different types of structural steel i.e. columns, beams, rafters including haunches from 6mm – 25mm multi run fillets & FPBW.
- Manoeuvring and positioning the steel beams to the bench, using the Crane equipment, as trained.
- Work with other Fabricator/Welders where appropriate, to evaluate and determine compliance with standards.
- Work in a tidy manner, ensuring a clear work bench at the end of every shift.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times, ensuring the reporting of hazards and accidents occur in a timely manner.
- Ensure the highest quality of work standards are delivered.
- Work as an effective team player within the department.
- Attend training as necessary to use all equipment required for the job.
- Achieve our Welding Certification on joining to ensure the company standards are met.
Key Skills, Experience & Attributes
- Structural Steel experience
- At least 5 years’ experience and working knowledge as a qualified Mig Welder.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Ability to set up and operate fabricating equipment, such as grinders, drills.
- Experience in handling structural steelwork components, including the use of overhead cranes up to 10TSWL.
- Certified to use 5-10 Tonne Gantry cranes.
- Understand the importance of legal compliance and steel identification tracking.
- Work to high quality standards with the ability to inspect your own work. Work with the Welding Quality Assurance inspectors (internal and external) as required.
