About the School
School Staffing Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN school supporting children and young people aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and ASC.
The school combines the strongest elements of mainstream and specialist education to create a nurturing, structured and engaging environment where young people are supported to achieve their individual goals and prepare for a positive future.
Staff are encouraged to build strong, professional relationships with pupils and to recognise each young person as an individual, adapting their approach to help them succeed.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Teaching Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting pupils with their learning, wellbeing and personal development.
You'll work alongside teachers and the wider school team to create a caring and safe environment where pupils feel supported, valued and able to thrive.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building warm, caring and professional relationships with pupils to help them feel safe, secure and ready to learn.
- Supporting pupils to develop greater independence, confidence and self-esteem.
- Maintaining high expectations for behaviour while using positive and individualised behaviour-support strategies.
- Supporting the delivery of engaging, challenging and differentiated learning activities across a broad and balanced curriculum.
- Assisting the Class Teacher with the day-to-day running of the classroom.
- Supporting pupils' cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural and physical development, as well as their wider wellbeing.
- Providing support with care needs when required.
- Completing appropriate records relating to incidents, behaviour, health and wellbeing under the guidance of senior colleagues.
What We're Looking For
Previous SCHOOL experience isn't essential. What matters most is your attitude, commitment and ability to build positive and trusted relationships with young people.
We're looking for someone who:
- Experience supporting children/young people in a voluntary or paid capacity
- Has a genuine passion for SEND
- Can build professional, positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Holds GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above, or an equivalent qualification – essential.
- Has an understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures.
- Is patient, resilient, positive and compassionate.
- Is creative and willing to adapt their approach to meet individual pupils' needs.
- Is committed to putting the child first and recognising their individual strengths, needs and potential.
- Enjoys working as part of a supportive and collaborative team.
