About the Role
Carpentry maintenance is about more than repairing damaged timber. Doors need to close correctly, fire-rated components must remain compliant, fittings need to withstand daily use, and refurbishment work has to blend practical durability with a clean finish.
As a Maintenance Carpenter and Joiner, you will carry out planned and reactive carpentry work across commercial and operational buildings. You will repair, replace, install, and maintain doors, frames, locks, timber fittings, partitions, fixtures, and other building-fabric components.
The role combines traditional carpentry skills with modern building maintenance. One day may involve repairing doors and ironmongery, while another could focus on installing new cabinetry, refurbishing timber fixtures, or carrying out corrective work identified during a building inspection.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive carpentry and joinery maintenance.
- Repair and replace internal and external doors.
- Install and maintain door frames, locks, hinges, closers, and ironmongery.
- Carry out repairs to timber fixtures, fittings, and building fabric.
- Install shelving, cupboards, worktops, and storage units.
- Complete minor refurbishment and alteration works.
- Inspect fire doors and identify defects requiring repair.
- Carry out approved fire-door maintenance and adjustment.
- Repair damaged skirting boards, architraves, panels, and timber finishes.
- Construct and install basic timber frameworks and partitions.
- Read drawings, measurements, and work instructions before beginning jobs.
- Measure and cut timber and sheet materials accurately.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.
- Record completed maintenance work and materials used.
- Identify additional building defects discovered during repairs.
- Work with electricians, plumbers, decorators, and other maintenance trades when required.
- Support planned refurbishment and improvement projects.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas.
- Follow risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Complete work to appropriate quality and building-safety standards.
What We Are Looking For
- Previous professional experience in carpentry, joinery, building maintenance, or property refurbishment.
- Recognised qualification such as NVQ Level 2 or 3, City and Guilds, or equivalent in Carpentry and Joinery.
- Strong practical woodworking and installation skills.
- Experience repairing and installing doors, frames, and ironmongery.
- Knowledge of building-fabric maintenance.
- Fire-door installation, inspection, or maintenance experience would be advantageous.
- Ability to interpret measurements and basic technical drawings.
- Confidence using hand and power tools safely.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety.
- Ability to diagnose practical building-maintenance problems.
- Experience working within commercial, education, healthcare, or large-estate environments would be beneficial.
- Full UK driving licence would be advantageous for roles covering multiple sites.

Pay: £30,000.00-£33,000.00 per year
