Senior Chef de Partie / Relief Sous Chef – Zero-Hours
Location: The Miller of Mansfield, Goring-on-Thames, RG8 9AW
Pay: £13.71 per hour, plus a share of tronc
Contract: Zero-hours
Start: As soon as practical
About the role
The Miller of Mansfield is an independently managed pub with rooms in Goring-on-Thames. We are looking for an experienced chef who can run a section confidently, support the Head Chef and take charge of service when needed.
This is not an entry-level kitchen role. It would suit an experienced Chef de Partie, Senior CDP or Sous Chef looking for flexible work alongside another job or other commitments. You will be joining a small team, so the role is hands-on: prep, service, cleaning down and helping the rest of the kitchen get through the shift properly.
There is work available now and we expect the need to become more regular from September. This is a zero-hours contract, so shifts will be offered according to the rota and business needs and there is no guaranteed minimum number of hours.
What you will be doing
- Running your section through prep and service
- Supporting the Head Chef and leading service when required
- Keeping food quality, presentation and portioning consistent
- Working accurately with allergens, food safety and kitchen records
- Supporting less-experienced chefs during service
- Helping with deliveries, stock rotation, ordering and waste control
- Contributing practical ideas for specials and seasonal menu changes
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and ready for the next service
What we are looking for
- Recent experience as a strong Chef de Partie, Senior CDP or Sous Chef
- Confident working independently and making decisions during service
- Experience in a fresh-food pub, restaurant or hotel kitchen
- Calm and reliable when service gets busy
- Clear communication with both the kitchen and front of house
- Good working knowledge of food hygiene and allergen controls
- Reliable transport to Goring for morning, evening and weekend shifts
What is on offer
- £13.71 per hour
- A share of tronc (tips and service charge)
- Meals on shift
- 25% staff discount on food and drink
- Company pension, where eligible
- Free on-site parking
- Flexible shifts, with more regular work expected from September
- The chance to work closely with the Head Chef and influence specials and menu development
Goring is on the Reading–Oxford rail line. The Miller is around five minutes' walk from Goring & Streatley station, with direct trains to Reading and Oxford.
