We're looking for an enthusiastic Graduate Research and Development Chemist to join our growing Research & Development team.
The Role
This isn't your typical graduate chemistry role. One week you could be helping to develop a bespoke coloured smoke effect for a major international touring artist, the next assisting with specialist materials testing for the Ministry of Defence. From laboratory trials through to production, you'll have the opportunity to see products you've helped develop being used on stages, film sets and live events across the world.
Working alongside experienced chemists and engineers, you'll receive hands-on experience across every aspect of our Research & Development process, from product formulation and testing through to manufacturing, certification and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the research and development of new pyrotechnic and special effects products.
- Support laboratory testing, formulation development and product evaluation.
- Assist with manufacturing trials and process improvements.
- Help prepare technical documentation for product approvals and certification.
- Support product testing against UK and international standards.
- Carry out laboratory experiments and accurately record results.
- Work closely with the Production, H&S and QA teams to support product development.
- Learn to prepare technical documentation, risk assessments and operating procedures.
- Assist with continuous improvement projects and product innovation.
- Assist in the safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with company procedures and relevant legislation.
- Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, housekeeping and record keeping.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.
What You'll Learn

What We're Looking For
Essential
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline.
- A genuine interest in Research & Development.
- Strong laboratory skills gained through university study.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Curious, analytical and enthusiastic about problem-solving.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Industrial placement or laboratory experience.
- An interest in formulation chemistry, energetic materials or manufacturing.
- Experience analysing and interpreting experimental data.
- Knowledge of quality systems or product testing.
