Teaching Assistant
Wednesday to Friday, 8:00am - 1:35pm
The role will be working across Reception to Year 4, term time only, supporting children and class teachers as required.
Main purpose of the job:
To support the class teacher with the delivery of the curriculum, supporting the children in class academically and pastorally.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- To be conversant with the School’s ethos and adhere to this at all times.
- To undergo safeguarding training and adhere closely to its guidelines.
- To provide support on educational outings when required.
- To work in the Lower School as directed by the Head of Lower School.
- To liaise with the Assistant Head of Lower School.
- To give in-class support to all pupils.
- To support pupils with SEN in small group / 1:1 situations as directed by the Head of Lower School.
- To liaise and work closely with the class teacher, helping all pupils access the curriculum.
- To help to develop programmes of learning activities and adapting appropriate materials for all pupils.
- To accompany pupils to music, PE and swimming activities when required.
- To assist with the displaying of the pupils work to a high presentational standard.
- To monitor pupil progress.
- To assist with marking and correcting work.
- To liaise with parents, when appropriate.
- To attend all INSET meetings and be willing to attend other school events which are in addition to the working week, such as Open Days and activities.
- To attend meetings and reviews.
- To assist as part of the staff duty rota at morning and lunchtime breaks, and after school, including Extended Day.
- To foster and develop a Forest School experience, working closely with the Head of Forest School to plan and deliver the Forest School provision for all pupils.
- To undertake and keep up to date paediatric First Aid qualification and to be able to administer basic first aid.
Support for the School
- To comply with, and assist with, the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, SEN/Inclusion and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate named person.
- To provide support for pupils’ emotional and social needs by encouraging and modelling positive behaviour in line with school policy.
- To accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required within contracted hours and to take responsibility for pupils under the supervision of the teacher.
- To drive the school minibus – if qualified to do so.
- To supervise pupils at Early Birds, morning break and lunchtime play and during Extended Day as per the staff rota.
Qualifications
Minimum of NVQ L3 and GCSE Maths, English and Science
