Broadland View Care Home – Norwich
Broadland View Care Home is looking for a reliable, organised and enthusiastic Bank Cook to join our friendly team.
We are a residential care home supporting older people living with dementia. The successful applicant will help prepare nutritious, appetising and well-presented meals while ensuring residents’ dietary needs, preferences and choices are respected.
This is a bank position, providing cover for annual leave, sickness and other staffing requirements. Hours will be offered according to the needs of the home.
The Role
As a Bank Cook, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and cooking nutritious meals for residents
- Following planned menus, recipes and portion guidance
- Preparing breakfast, lunch, evening meals, snacks and desserts as required
- Catering for residents with allergies, intolerances and specialist dietary requirements
- Preparing meals in line with individual care plans and dietary guidance
- Following IDDSI requirements for residents who require texture-modified meals or thickened fluids
- Ensuring vegan, vegetarian, diabetic and other dietary preferences are appropriately supported
- Monitoring food quality, presentation and portion sizes
- Ensuring meals are served at the correct temperature and at the planned time
- Completing food temperature checks and kitchen records accurately
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and infection control
- Completing stock checks and reporting low supplies
- Checking food deliveries and monitoring use-by and best-before dates
- Reducing food waste while ensuring sufficient meals and alternatives are available
- Cleaning kitchen equipment, work surfaces and food-preparation areas
- Following food safety procedures, COSHH guidance and health and safety requirements
- Communicating with care staff regarding residents’ dietary needs, preferences and any changes in appetite
- Reporting any concerns relating to food, hydration or nutrition to the senior team
- Supporting inspections, audits and environmental health requirements
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience preparing and cooking meals
- Is reliable, flexible and able to provide cover when required
- Has good knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety
- Can work independently and manage their workload effectively
- Is organised and able to prepare meals within required timeframes
- Understands the importance of residents’ dignity, choice and preferences
- Can communicate confidently with residents, care staff and management
- Is able to follow menus, recipes, dietary instructions and care plans
- Can remain calm and organised in a busy kitchen environment
- Takes pride in producing enjoyable, nutritious and well-presented food
Previous experience working within a care home, school, hospital or similar setting would be beneficial.
A recognised food hygiene qualification is desirable. Training may be provided where appropriate.
Hours and Pay
This is a bank position with no guaranteed contracted hours.
Shifts will be offered to provide cover for:
- Annual leave
- Sickness

- Weekends and bank holidays
Flexibility is essential, and applicants should be willing to work weekdays, weekends and bank holidays when required.
