We're Apex Healthcare Services, and we look after people in their own homes across the UK — homecare, live-in care, night support. The job is genuinely important and occasionally hilarious, because life is. We're hiring in Reading, and we'd love it to be you.
What you'd actually be doing
You'll be the friendly face that turns up, makes sure Doris hasn't fed her tablets to the cat again, helps with the bits of the day that have gotten tricky — washing, dressing, breakfast that's actually breakfast and not three biscuits — and leaves the house a little brighter than you found it. Some days that's practical care. Some days that's listening to the same story about 1962 for the fourth time and laughing in all the right places (the trick: it is a good story).
The official list, because Indeed likes a list:
- Personal care and daily living support, following each client's care plan
- Help with bathing, dressing, meals, and the general business of getting on with the day
- Keeping clear, honest records and flagging anything that's changed
- Medication reminders (gently, not like a drill sergeant)
- Building proper trust with clients and their families
- Following health and safety like it matters, because it does
- Showing up to training and actually engaging with it
What we're hoping you bring
- A driving licence and a car that starts most mornings
- Kindness as a default setting, not a performance
- Decent English and the ability to have a real conversation
- Enough IT skills to fill in a form on a phone without throwing it
- Previous care experience is lovely but not essential — the right person matters more than the right CV
- A sense of humour that travels well into other people's living rooms
The "joining a family" bit, and we mean it
Apex was built by a family, and we've never really lost that. Your manager will know your name, your dog's name, and roughly how you take your tea. We celebrate the wins, we have each other's backs on the hard days, and nobody gets left to figure it out alone. If you've worked somewhere that treated you like a payroll number, this won't be that.
