Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Manager in Transport to oversee our transportation operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing logistics, supervising staff, and ensuring the efficient movement of goods across our supply chain. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of transportation management systems, warehouse operations, and process optimisation. The Manager in Transport will play a vital role in maintaining seamless logistics processes, improving operational efficiencies, and supporting overall business growth.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily transportation activities, including shipping, receiving, and distribution processes.
- Supervise and lead the transport team to ensure high standards of safety, efficiency, and compliance.
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PL) and coordinate their activities to optimise service levels.
- Utilise transportation management systems (TMS), ERP systems, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and AS400 to plan routes, track shipments, and manage inventory movements.
- Monitor profit & loss statements related to transport operations and implement cost-saving initiatives.
- Drive process improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing service quality through continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations within all transport activities, including forklift operation where applicable.
- Analyse logistics data to identify trends, optimise routes, and improve overall supply chain performance.
- Coordinate with warehouse teams on shipping & receiving schedules to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.
- Maintain accurate documentation for all transport activities and prepare reports for senior management.
Requirements
- Proven supervising experience within transportation or logistics environments.
- Strong knowledge of profit & loss management related to transport operations.
- Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), ERP systems, WMS, AS400, and process improvement tools such as continuous improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with 3PL providers, shipping & receiving procedures, and warehouse management practices.
- Ability to operate forklifts and demonstrate warehouse experience where necessary.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on process optimisation and cost reduction strategies.
- Knowledge of supply chain management principles and logistics best practices.
- Proven ability to lead teams towards achieving operational excellence through supervision and process improvements.
