Aims of Job/Job Purpose
The role of a Main Grade Lecturer (MGL) at South & City College Birmingham is to support the College’s aims, objectives and mission statement to provide quality education and training in response to local need.

Required to teach on District Heat Network courses both theory, practical and work based competency up to the equivalent of Level 3.
- Have a flexible and innovative approach to the management of the student learning programme.
- Liaise with parents/guardians, schools and other organisations as appropriate.
- Carry out appropriate course administration including lesson plans and schemes of work and marking.
- Comply with the Quality Assurance procedures of the College.
- Maintain appropriate learning resources.
- Participate in college Enrolment, Induction and Open Days and attend meetings, marketing events and other relevant functions as required by the line manager.
- Ensure “In Attendance” time is carried out to meet the needs of the students.
- To carry out student assessments using a range of techniques and tools determined by the College.
- Monitor the academic and vocational progress of students on their courses, including tracking skills and arranging additional support where required.
- Set targets for improvement and provide constructive feedback on progress.
- Provide pastoral care, student support, initial advice and guidance, including the safeguarding and promotion of the students’ welfare.
- Assist in the development of appropriate curriculum initiatives.
- Work with others to monitor, evaluate and improve the effectiveness of learning, including the use of lesson observations.
- Support students to improve their study skills and exam techniques.
- Monitor and review provision in the curriculum.
- Contribute to the enrichment programmes of the College.
- Engage in inspection and audit requirements and internal and external verification activities.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of student and course registers.
- Arrange careers guidance.
- Provide student reports and discuss with parents or guardians.
- Act as a course tutor, providing learner with academic support, meeting their vocational and educational needs.
- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as directed and required, that is commensurate with the grade of the post.
- Keep up to date with Industry and education developments such as new technologies and T levels in order to ensure their smooth introduction into the curriculum.
