Plaster Coving Ltd is a small, fast-growing business based in North Yorkshire. We supply an extensive range of traditional handmade plaster coving, cornices, ceiling roses and architectural mouldings to customers throughout the UK.
As the business continues to expand, we are looking for an ambitious graduate-level candidate who wants to learn how a successful small business operates and is keen to take on increasing levels of responsibility.
The Role

The successful candidate will work closely with the company’s directors and managers, gaining experience across customer service, sales administration, warehouse operations, distribution, stock control and business improvement.
From the outset, you will be trusted with real work and genuine responsibility. As your knowledge and experience develop, you will be expected to take ownership of projects, solve problems, improve processes and help manage important areas of the business.
The role would particularly suit someone who is commercially minded, highly organised and interested in developing into a future management position.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn how the different areas of the business operate and work together.
- Assist with the processing and management of customer orders.
- Communicate professionally with customers, suppliers and delivery teams.
- Support the planning and coordination of warehouse and distribution activities.
- Help maintain accurate stock, order and delivery information.
- Monitor the progress of orders and help resolve delays or problems.
- Analyse existing processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Help document and introduce clear operating procedures.
- Take responsibility for specific projects and ensure they are completed successfully.
- Produce reports and management information to support decision-making.
- Assist managers with planning, organisation and team coordination.
- Develop a detailed understanding of the company’s products, customers and systems.
- Take on greater managerial and commercial responsibility as experience and ability develop.
- Get involved in practical tasks when necessary to understand the operation and help keep work moving.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent ability.
- Ambitious and interested in developing a career in business management.
- Keen to accept responsibility and take ownership of their work.
- Organised, methodical and attentive to detail.
- Commercially aware and interested in how businesses grow and improve.
- Confident communicating with customers, colleagues and suppliers.
- Able to analyse problems and develop practical solutions.
- Comfortable working in a busy, fast-changing environment.
- Willing to learn and receptive to guidance and constructive feedback.
- Proactive and able to act without waiting to be told every next step.
- Comfortable working with numbers, spreadsheets and business systems.
- Prepared to undertake both office-based and practical operational work.
- Interested in joining a small business where individual contribution is visible and important.
Previous management experience is not required. We are looking for intelligence, judgement, initiative, reliability and the potential to develop into a capable business manager.
What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate will:
- Quickly develop a strong understanding of the business and its products.
- Become someone who can be trusted to take ownership of tasks and projects.
- Build effective working relationships with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
- Identify problems and contribute practical solutions.
- Help improve the organisation and efficiency of the business.
- Progressively take responsibility for managing processes, projects and people.
- Develop into an important member of the company’s management team.
What We Offer
- A genuine opportunity to build a management career within a growing business.
- Direct access to and mentoring from the company’s directors and managers.
- Practical experience across several important areas of business operations.
- Meaningful responsibility from an early stage.
- The opportunity to influence how the business develops.
- A varied role in which no two days are likely to be the same.
- Career progression based on performance, ability and willingness to take responsibility.
This role would suit a recent graduate or someone at the beginning of their career who wants responsibility, variety and the opportunity to grow alongside a successful small business.
