M-Tech Automotive is an established independent garage based on the West Wilts Trading Estate in Westbury.
We carry out servicing, repairs, diagnostics, MOT preparation and more involved mechanical work across a wide range of vehicles. We are also investing significantly in our premises, with a new modern workshop development designed to support the next stage of the business.
We are now looking for an experienced Head Vehicle Technician / Workshop Foreman to provide technical leadership within our workshop.
This is primarily a hands-on technical position. You will continue working on vehicles while helping the Workshop Manager organise jobs, support the other technicians and maintain high standards of workmanship and efficiency.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out servicing, repairs, diagnostics and complex mechanical work
- Diagnosing faults accurately and recommending appropriate repairs
- Taking responsibility for more difficult technical jobs
- Supporting and guiding technicians and apprentices
- Helping allocate work according to technician ability and workload
- Checking completed work and maintaining high quality-control standards
- Ensuring technicians record accurate job notes, labour time and additional work required
- Identifying extra work and communicating findings clearly to the office
- Helping keep jobs moving and preventing vehicles from becoming delayed unnecessarily
- Maintaining a clean, organised and professional workshop
- Supporting the Workshop Manager with the day-to-day running of the workshop
This role would suit an experienced senior technician who enjoys working on vehicles but is also ready to take greater responsibility for workshop standards and the performance of the wider team.
About you
The successful candidate will:
- Be an experienced and fully qualified vehicle technician
- Ideally hold an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification
- Have strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities
- Be comfortable working independently on complex jobs
- Produce consistently high-quality work
- Be organised, reliable and able to communicate clearly
- Be willing to support and develop less experienced technicians
- Understand the importance of productivity, accurate time recording and completing jobs properly
- Hold a full UK driving licence
Previous experience as a Head Technician, Workshop Foreman, Senior Technician or Diagnostic Technician would be beneficial, although we would also consider an exceptional experienced technician ready to step up.
An MOT testing qualification would be useful but is not essential.
