What You’ll be doing
As Head of Temporary Accommodation, you’ll provide strategic and operational leadership across Temporary Accommodation, the Housing Register. You’ll lead the procurement and management of good-quality, affordable accommodation, helping reduce reliance on costly emergency accommodation while ensuring statutory duties are met.
You’ll build a high-performing, resident-focused service that supports vulnerable households to move on from homelessness and sustain long-term accommodation. You’ll work closely with internal teams, housing providers and external partners to improve outcomes, drive value for money and deliver innovative housing and homelessness solutions.
You’ll also lead service improvement, manage budgets and performance, oversee complex cases and ensure the service remains compliant, effective and responsive to residents’ needs.
What we’re looking for
You’ll bring substantial local authority experience of procuring and managing Temporary Accommodation, alongside strong knowledge of the Housing Register, Allocation Policy and Choice Based Lettings. Experience of private sector procurement and property acquisition is highly desirable.
You’ll have excellent knowledge of homelessness and housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, with the ability to translate legislation into effective, resident-focused services.
You’ll be an inspiring and inclusive leader, confident managing teams, budgets and competing priorities. With strong communication, influencing and problem-solving skills, you’ll be comfortable working with residents, Members, partners and senior stakeholders—and passionate about improving housing outcomes for people experiencing homelessness.
