About the Role
We are seeking a Retail Field Service Engineer to join our Field Service team in Northern Ireland.
The successful candidate will install, maintain and support equipment across a large estate of retail stores. This will include Electronic Shelf Label systems, retail weighing scales, food-wrapping equipment, EPOS systems, printers and associated retail technology.
Full training will be provided on the DIGI product range and the EPOS equipment supported by the company.
The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in IT hardware and software, strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to providing customers with a positive and professional service.
A company vehicle, fuel card, mobile phone and laptop will be provided.
The position will ideally suit a candidate based in or around the greater Belfast area. However, regular travel throughout Northern Ireland will be required, along with occasional travel elsewhere in Ireland. Any approved accommodation and subsistence costs associated with overnight stays will be covered by the company.
Working Pattern
This is a 40-hour-per-week position, normally worked over five days between Monday and Saturday.
The successful candidate will also participate in a scheduled weekend rota. Weekend service hours are generally:
- Saturday: 8.00 am to 5.00 pm
- Sunday: 11.00 am to 4.00 pm
Saturday hours may form part of the employee’s normal 40-hour working week, with an alternative rest day allocated during the week.
Sunday cover will be arranged separately as part of the weekend rota. Any hours worked on Sunday, or any other hours worked in excess of the contracted 40-hour week, will be compensated in accordance with the company’s overtime and on-call arrangements.
Main Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair retail technology equipment, including Electronic Shelf Label systems, weighing scales, food-wrapping equipment, EPOS systems, printers and associated peripherals.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software and connectivity issues.
- Attend customer locations throughout Northern Ireland in response to scheduled and reactive service calls.
- Replace faulty equipment, components and consumable parts as required.
- Communicate with the Support team by telephone and email to diagnose issues and progress service calls.
- Complete service reports accurately and keep customers and the Support team informed.
- Manage company tools, spare parts and equipment held in the company vehicle.
- Deliver a professional and courteous service while working in live retail environments.
- Participate in product and technical training as required.
Essential Requirements
- A full, valid driving licence.
- Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
- Fluent spoken and written English.
- A strong interest in IT, electronics and technical fault-finding.
- Good problem-solving and practical skills.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a field-based workload.
- Flexibility to travel and participate in scheduled weekend cover.
Desirable Requirements
- At least one year of relevant field-service, technical-support or hardware-repair experience.
- Previous experience with EPOS equipment, printers, retail technology, ATMs, photocopiers, vending equipment or similar electromechanical systems.
- Experience working in customer-facing environments.
- Basic networking and software-troubleshooting knowledge.
