Residential Support Worker
Go Supports Ltd – Children’s Residential Home
At Go Supports, we believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, listened to and supported to reach their potential.
We are looking for caring, reliable and emotionally resilient Residential Support Workers to join our team and make a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people living in our home.
This is more than a care role. You will be someone a young person can build trust with, talk to, learn from and rely on. You will help create a safe and positive home environment while supporting young people through their day-to-day lives, challenges and achievements.
You will work alongside a supportive team to provide consistent, child-centred care that reflects each young person's individual needs, personality, experiences and goals.
What you will be doing
- Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and young people.
- Provide consistent day-to-day care, supervision and emotional support.
- Support young people with emotional, behavioural and learning needs in a calm, patient and respectful way.
- Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies, adapting your approach to the needs of each young person.
- Encourage children and young people to develop confidence, independence and practical life skills.
- Support education, school attendance, hobbies, activities, appointments and positive community engagement.
- Help maintain a warm, welcoming and structured home where young people feel safe and included.
- Prepare meals and encourage healthy routines and independent living skills.
- Support personal care where required and appropriate to the young person's individual needs.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in behaviour, mood or presentation.
- Use de-escalation and positive behaviour approaches to support young people during difficult or challenging situations.
- Maintain clear, accurate and timely records, including daily logs, key-work sessions, incident reports and other required documentation.
- Share important information appropriately with colleagues and other professionals to ensure continuity of care.
- Work closely with the Registered Manager, colleagues, social workers, education professionals, health professionals and other agencies involved in a young person's care.
- Take part in staff meetings, handovers, supervision, training and ongoing professional development.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and raise concerns promptly to help protect the welfare of the children in our care.
- Contribute to a positive team culture where staff support one another and consistently put the needs of the young people first.
The kind of person we are looking for
You do not need to have all the answers. What matters to us is that you genuinely care about young people and are willing to learn.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Compassionate, patient and approachable.
- Calm and emotionally resilient, particularly when situations become challenging.
- Able to communicate effectively with children, young people and professionals.
- Consistent and able to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Reliable, responsible and able to work as part of a team.
- Confident following policies, procedures, care plans and risk assessments.
- Able to reflect on their practice and accept feedback.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Willing to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-in/night shifts where required.
Experience and qualifications
Previous experience working with children or young people in residential care, social care, education, safeguarding, youth work or a similar setting is desirable.
A Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare or a relevant equivalent qualification is desirable. We are also happy to consider candidates who are working towards an appropriate qualification.
Knowledge or experience of trauma-informed practice, attachment, positive behaviour support, safeguarding and children's residential care would be an advantage.
An Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory safer recruitment checks will be required as part of the recruitment process.
You will also need to demonstrate your right to work in the UK.
Why join Go Supports?
We want our staff to feel supported as well as the young people we care for.
You will have access to training, supervision and opportunities to develop your skills within children's residential care. We are committed to creating a team where people can learn, ask questions, share ideas and continue to grow professionally.
Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference. Sometimes that difference may be something small — helping a young person have a better day, encouraging them to try something new, listening when they need someone, or celebrating an achievement that others might overlook.
If you are passionate about helping children and young people feel safe, supported and able to move forward, we would love to hear from you.
