Hours: 31.5 hours per week on average

We are looking for an organised, reliable and experienced Head Housekeeper to join our team at Autumn House Nursing Home.
This is an important leadership role within the home. You will be responsible for ensuring that our residents enjoy a clean, comfortable, safe and welcoming environment, while supervising and supporting our Domestic and Laundry teams.
You will take pride in maintaining excellent standards throughout the home and will have the confidence to organise workloads, support colleagues and ensure that cleaning and laundry services run smoothly and efficiently.
Your Working Pattern
The role follows a two-week rolling rota:
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday – 35 hours
Week 2: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – 28 hours
Average: 31.5 hours per week

About the Role
As Head Housekeeper, you will lead the Domestic and Laundry teams and oversee the day-to-day housekeeping services within the home.
You will ensure that residents' bedrooms, communal areas, bathrooms, utility areas and other parts of the home are cleaned thoroughly and hygienically, while maintaining high standards of infection prevention, health and safety and COSHH compliance.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, supervising and supporting the Domestic and Laundry teams
- Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the home
- Creating cleaning routines, rotas and work allocations for the Domestic team
- Monitoring standards and carrying out regular inspections
- Ensuring the laundry service operates efficiently and effectively
- Ordering cleaning products and maintaining appropriate stock levels
- Managing cleaning supplies and resources economically and within the agreed budget
- Maintaining accurate stock-control records and equipment inventories
- Ensuring cleaning products are stored and used safely and correctly
- Maintaining COSHH records and departmental risk assessments
- Ensuring appropriate safety signage, such as wet-floor signs, is used when required
- Holding departmental meetings and maintaining effective communication with colleagues and management
- Reporting maintenance issues, faulty equipment, hazards, spillages and other concerns promptly
- Working closely with the Home Manager, Maintenance team and other departments
- Ensuring departmental practices comply with relevant health, safety and environmental requirements
- Following the home's policies, procedures, fire safety and evacuation procedures
- Attending training and staff meetings as required
- Supporting the wider team to maintain a safe, welcoming and comfortable home for our residents
About You
We are looking for someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards and can confidently lead and motivate a team.
You should have:
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- The ability to prioritise workloads in a busy environment
- A keen eye for detail and high standards of cleanliness
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider care-home team
- A good understanding of workplace health and safety
- An understanding of COSHH requirements
- A reliable, flexible and positive approach to work
Previous experience in a senior housekeeping, domestic or cleaning role would be advantageous, particularly within a care home, nursing home, healthcare or similar environment.
