Coogan Commercials is looking for an experienced Senior HGV Mechanic to join our workshop team.
This is a senior position for someone with strong HGV experience who is comfortable taking on a wide range of mechanical work, diagnostics and repairs.
We are looking for a capable mechanic who can work confidently on their own jobs, while also being part of a supportive workshop team.
Basic salary: £45,000–£50,000 per year, depending on experience.
Additional earnings are available through optional overtime and our paid callout rota.

Working Hours
Monday: 08:00–17:30
Tuesday: 08:00–17:30
Wednesday: 08:00–17:30
Thursday: 08:00–17:30
Friday: 08:00–17:30
Saturday: 08:00–12:00 every other Saturday
Overtime outside these hours is optional.
The Role
Coogan Commercials carries out a wide range of commercial vehicle work, so this is not a role where you will be doing the same type of job every day.
Your work will include:
- HGV servicing, maintenance and repairs
- Trailer servicing and repairs
- Commercial vehicle and van repairs
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Electrical and mechanical repairs
- Brake, suspension and driveline repairs
- Vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance
- PSV/MOT preparation and defect rectification
- Roadside breakdown and callout work if you choose to participate in the callout rota
- Repairs and maintenance on customer vehicles
- Maintenance of our own hire and recovery fleet
- Completing job cards and recording work carried out
As a senior mechanic, we would expect you to be comfortable taking responsibility for your own jobs and working through repairs from diagnosis to completion.
You may also be asked to provide advice or assistance to other members of the workshop on more difficult jobs, but this is primarily a hands-on mechanic role rather than a management position.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with good practical HGV experience who is confident across a broad range of repair and maintenance work.
You should ideally be comfortable with:
- HGV servicing and repairs
- Mechanical and electrical fault finding
- Working across different makes and types of commercial vehicles
- Taking ownership of your own work
- Diagnosing faults and deciding on the appropriate repair
- Working as part of a busy workshop team
Relevant qualifications are preferred, but proven ability and practical experience are just as important to us.
An HGV driving licence would be an advantage but is not essential.
