Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our team. This role involves maintaining and enhancing outdoor environments, ensuring they are safe, attractive, and well-kept. The ideal candidate will have a passion for horticulture and landscaping, combined with practical experience in grounds maintenance and construction-related tasks. This position offers an opportunity to work outdoors across various sites, contributing to the upkeep of public and private spaces.
Responsibilities
- Perform landscape maintenance including mowing, pruning, planting, and fertilising to ensure healthy growth and aesthetic appeal.
- Operate a range of power tools such as hedge trimmers, lawnmowers, and leaf blowers safely and efficiently.
- Use hand tools for tasks like digging, planting, and edging to maintain gardens and green spaces.
- Maintain irrigation systems, including installation, repair, and regular checks to ensure proper water distribution.
- Assist with construction projects related to grounds development or repair, including excavation work using excavators when necessary.
- Conduct routine inspections of outdoor areas to identify hazards or maintenance needs.
- Carry out general maintenance tasks such as cleaning equipment, clearing debris, and ensuring safety standards are met.
- Support seasonal planting programmes and specialised horticultural activities.
Qualifications
- Experience in landscape maintenance or gardening is highly desirable.
- Mechanical knowledge related to power tools, irrigation systems, and basic equipment repairs is advantageous.
- Familiarity with hand tools used in gardening and groundskeeping tasks.
- Construction experience or familiarity with excavation machinery such as excavators is a plus.
- Knowledge of horticulture principles and practices for healthy plant growth.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions with physical stamina for manual labour.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail for routine maintenance tasks.
- Relevant certifications or licences for operating machinery (e.g., excavator) are preferred but not essential.
