Are you a practical, proactive maintenance professional who takes pride in high standards and enjoys working as part of a supportive school team? St Peter’s Preparatory School, Lympstone is seeking two reliable and hands-on Maintenance and General Site Assistants to help maintain our buildings, grounds, and facilities to an excellent standard.
This is a varied and rewarding role where you will contribute directly to the smooth day-to-day running of the School, supporting maintenance, site operations, grounds and school events in a busy and welcoming environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will carry out a wide range of general maintenance and repair tasks, support grounds upkeep and basic landscaping duties, assist with event setup and logistics, and help ensure the School buildings and outdoor areas remain safe, clean, and well-presented at all times.
You will respond to maintenance requests via the electronic ticketing system, complete planned seasonal maintenance and grounds tasks, support parking duties and school functions, and assist with the movement of equipment and resources across the site. You may also support cleaning tasks, outdoor site maintenance, and undertake driving duties where required.
You will play an important role in maintaining high standards of health, safety, security, and presentation across the School site and grounds.
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Position 1 - Monday to Friday, 06:30-15:00 with a 60-minute unpaid break each day
- Position 2 - Monday to Friday, 10:30–19:00 with a 60-minute unpaid break each day
- Six weeks’ paid holiday plus Christmas closure
- Contract: Permanent
- Salary: £24,784.50 per annum (including paid holiday entitlement)
- Start date: Monday 13 July 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
About You
You will be a practical, organised, and solution-focused professional with:
- Proven general maintenance skills, including carpentry, painting and decorating
- A good understanding of health and safety, fire safety, and COSHH regulations
- Experience in grounds work is advantageous
- Experience of working in a hands-on maintenance or site support role
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and complete tasks effectively
- A proactive, problem-solving approach and willingness to work across a varied workload
- A full, clean UK driving licence
- Physical capability to undertake manual tasks and work outdoors in all weather conditions
You will also demonstrate resilience, flexibility, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in a busy school environment, along with a strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
