HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Commercial/Procurement
Location:
Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).
Role Description:
Start Up of New Projects
Be aware of the requirement for pre-contract management and project commercial start-up procedures
Procurement
Assists with subcontract procurement in accordance with the procurement schedule timetable, in accordance with the BBV procurement process and policy.
Is aware of the requirement to procure materials and off site services in an efficient manner as directed, ensuring organisations are capable of carrying out the work in accordance with best practice, legal requirements and BBV procurement procedures and policies Assists in the preparation of work package content sheets. Assist in the preparation of subcontract invitations to tender. Become aware of the importance of the supply chain to deliver continuous improvement in terms of time, cost, quality and learning of all parties.
Cost Control
Become familiar with basic unit costs of resources (labour, plant, equipment and materials) Assist in the preparation of material wastage reconciliations Become aware of plant and equipment schedules and their use to ensure efficiency of use.
Accounting and Reporting
Be aware of the need for the production of accurate and timely CVR reports and forecasts.
Change Control
Able to recognise and record “change”.
Programming and Project Controls
Be aware of programming and sequencing requirements.
Subcontract Administration
Be aware of the need for subcontract notices to be accurate and on time
Assist in the preparation of subcontract instructions
Adhere to robust subcontract change control procedures
Support the process of interim subcontract payments
Develop and understand methods of measurement and provide quantified schedules of works and / or bills of quantities
On-site quantification of unfixed materials
Checking of daywork sheets or time and material records.
Project Completion
