The Fleet Manager is responsible for the efficient management of the company's fleet of vehicles and drivers, ensuring that all operations meet the service standards and compliance requirements expected by DPD. The role involves overseeing vehicle availability, maintenance, driver coordination, legal compliance, cost control, and operational performance to ensure uninterrupted delivery services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the company fleet, ensuring maximum vehicle availability and reliability.
- Coordinate the allocation of vans and drivers to meet DPD operational requirements and delivery schedules.
- Monitor fleet performance, utilisation, and operational efficiency, implementing improvements where necessary.
- Schedule and oversee vehicle servicing, MOTs, inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
- Ensure all vehicles comply with legal, safety, insurance, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate fleet records, including maintenance history, insurance documentation, vehicle licensing, and compliance certificates.
- Monitor driver documentation, including driving licences, CPC qualifications (where applicable), right-to-work documentation, and company policies.
- Investigate vehicle incidents, accidents, and damage reports, ensuring timely resolution and appropriate reporting.
- Manage relationships with garages, leasing companies, fuel providers, breakdown services, and other external suppliers.
- Control fleet-related costs, including maintenance, fuel, repairs, tyres, insurance, and vehicle downtime.
- Analyse fleet data and prepare regular performance reports, identifying trends and recommending operational improvements.
- Support driver recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management in collaboration with the operations team.
- Ensure compliance with DPD operational standards, contractual requirements, and company policies.
- Respond quickly to operational issues, arranging replacement vehicles or drivers to minimise service disruption.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, professionalism, and customer service throughout the fleet operation.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in fleet management, transport management, or logistics operations.
- Experience managing commercial vans and drivers within a parcel delivery or courier environment is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of UK vehicle compliance, road transport legislation, and fleet maintenance requirements.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and fleet management software.
- Ability to analyse operational data and produce management reports.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (desirable).
- Alternatively, equivalent professional experience in transport operations
- Professional qualifications in Transport Management, Health & Safety, or Leadership are advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in logistics, transport, courier, or distribution operations.
- Previous experience managing delivery drivers or operational teams.
- Experience working with third-party logistics providers or parcel delivery networks, such as DPD or similar courier companies.
- Proven experience in workforce planning, route allocation, and performance management.
- Experience ensuring compliance with transport regulations, health and safety legislation, and company policies.
Pay: £33,500.00-£35,500.00 per year
