Position: Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Design Manager
Location: Edinburgh / Perth – with travel to project sites as required

The Role:
As M&E Design Manager, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of major projects, managing and coordinating the Mechanical and Electrical design process from tender and pre-construction through to project completion, commissioning and handover.
Working closely with our Pre-Construction, Design and Delivery teams, you will ensure building services designs are coordinated, buildable, technically compliant and delivered in line with project programmes.
This is a varied role combining office, site and client-facing responsibilities, with regular interaction with consultants, construction teams and specialist M&E subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the M&E design process throughout pre-construction and live project delivery.
- Manage the design responsibilities and deliverables of in-house D&B projects and CDP elements, with a strong focus on change control and the commissioning and handover process.
- Coordinate Mechanical and Electrical design information between consultants, subcontractors and internal teams.
- Review technical submissions, drawings and specifications to ensure buildability and compliance.
- Chair and attend design coordination meetings with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
- Work closely with site-based teams to resolve design and coordination issues during construction.
- Monitor design programmes to ensure information is released in line with project requirements.
- Identify and manage design risks while driving value engineering opportunities.
- Ensure M&E installations are fully coordinated with architectural and structural elements.
- Support JGM’s commitment to high standards of Health, Safety and Environmental performance.
Skills & Competencies
Essential
- Previous experience as an M&E Design Manager, Building Services Manager, Senior M&E Coordinator, or in a similar role.
- Strong Mechanical and Electrical building services knowledge gained within a Main Contractor or Building Services Contractor environment.
- Experience delivering large commercial construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of M&E design coordination and the construction project lifecycle.
- Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to work effectively with clients, consultants, subcontractors and site-based delivery teams.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach to design challenges.
- A full UK Driving Licence.
- The ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
