The Firm
Our client is an ambitious start-up boutique criminal law firm, founded by a leading King's Counsel, with a clear vision: to become one of the country's leading specialist criminal and regulatory law firms, recognised for delivering the highest standards of legal representation and client service.
The firm's practice will focus predominantly on privately funded criminal defence, while also applying for its own criminal legal aid contract. This will enable it to undertake a limited number of own-client legally aided cases, reflecting its commitment to promoting access to justice whilst ensuring that every client receives the same exceptional standard orepresentation, irrespective of how their case is funded.
The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to join a firm at the very beginning of its journey and to play a defining role in its future.
Working closely alongside one of the country's leading King's Counsel, the successful candidate will enjoy a unique opportunity to develop their practice through close collaboration on high-quality privately funded criminal defence work.
Subject to satisfying the Legal Aid Agency's requirements, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to act as the firm's Legal Aid Supervisor.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have around three years' PQE in criminal defence. Experience of regulatory work would be advantageous, although not essential.
- Practical, proactive and highly organised — prepared to contribute beyond fee-earning during the firm's early stages, including assisting with practice management and administration.
- Technologically proficient and committed to embracing technology as part of delivering an efficient, modern legal service. Experience of LEAP or similar practice management software is highly desirable.
- Intellectually curious, hardworking, resilient and committed to excellence.
- Genuine warmth and emotional intelligence — outstanding client care is central to the firm's ethos. The successful candidate must ensure that every client feels genuinely listened to, understood and exceptionally well looked after.
Long-Term Opportunity
This is a role for someone who is looking for more than simply their next position. We are looking for someone who wants to help build an exceptional firm over the long term and who is excited by the opportunity to shape its future from the outset.
As the firm grows and succeeds, the successful candidate will be entrusted with increasing responsibility, enjoy exceptional opportunities for professional development and career progression, and be rewarded accordingly, both professionally and financially, in line with their contribution to the firm's success.
