Purpose of the Role
The Quality Manager is responsible for all aspects of quality assurance, quality control, compliance, auditing, customer and supplier quality management, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities. As the sole member of the Quality Department, the role combines hands-on quality engineering and strategic quality management to ensure the delivery of products that consistently meet customer expectations and business objectives.
This is a one person quality department and therefore candidates expecting an office based and administrative role only, would not be considered suitable for this position.
The management team have good working knowledge of the quality function and therefore could support a more practical quality engineer who want to develop into the all-round role.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management System (QMS)
· Maintain and continuously improve the company's Quality Management System.
· Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements.
· Develop, review, and control quality procedures, work instructions, and records.
· Coordinate management reviews and quality objectives.
· Monitor and report on quality performance metrics.
Quality Control and Inspection
· Establish and maintain inspection and testing plans.
· Conduct incoming, in-process, sample approval and final inspections.
· Ensure products conform to customer specifications and quality standards.
· Preparation, approval and issue of product certificates and test reports
· Support production teams in maintaining quality standards.
Non-Conformance and Corrective Action
· Receive internal and external non-conformance issues.
· Sort and quarantine non-conforming materials
· Lead root cause analysis using team based problem-solving techniques
· Manage corrective and preventive actions, concessions and permits.
· Verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
· Monitor trends and implement actions to reduce defects and waste.
Customer Quality Management
· Act as the escalated quality contact for customers.
· Investigate customer complaints and processing of returns.
· Prepare corrective action reports, customer responses and concession requests
· Support customer audits and lead quality meetings.
· Monitor customer satisfaction and quality performance indicators.
Supplier Quality Management
· Manage vendor approval and sample approval procedures
· Monitor supplier performance, inspection reports and quality metrics.
· Investigate supplier non-conformances.
· Coordinate supplier corrective actions.
· Support supplier audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Internal Auditing and Compliance
· Plan, lead, and report team based internal audits.
· Ensure compliance with company procedures, standards, Third party approvals and customer requirements.
· Coordinate external certification and customer audits.
· Maintain readiness for audits and assessments.
· Identify opportunities for process improvement.
Calibration and Measurement Control
· Manage calibration of inspection and measurement equipment.
· Maintain calibration records and schedules.
· Ensure measuring equipment remains fit for purpose.
Continuous Improvement
· Analyse quality data and identify improvement opportunities.
· Lead quality improvement projects.
· Reduce scrap, rework, and customer complaints.
· Promote best practices throughout the organisation.
· Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Reporting and Performance Monitoring
· Prepare presentation materials and lead regular quality review meetings.
· Monitor key quality KPIs.
· Present quality performance data during business reviews.
· Recommend actions to improve business performance and customer satisfaction.
Skills and Experience
Essential
· Experience in a manufacturing quality role.
· Thorough understanding of ISO 9001 requirements.
· Experience conducting internal audits.
· Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
· Experience with problem solving and reporting methods
· Strong communication and team working skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
· Lead Auditor qualification.
· Understanding of ISO 9001 requirements.
· Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
· Experience of customer and supplier audits.
· Knowledge of sector-specific standards relevant to the business.
· Appreciation of environmental and HSE standards

Pay: £37,000.00-£47,000.00 per year
