This is an excellent opportunity for an established Design Manager or Senior Design Manager who understands the complexities of delivering healthcare environments and can lead the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery.
You’ll play a key role in developing and implementing the project design strategy, ensuring that design solutions meet our customers’ requirements while remaining buildable, commercially viable, compliant and deliverable.
Working closely with our construction, commercial, M&E and project teams, you’ll provide leadership across the design process and help ensure we deliver high-quality healthcare projects for our customers.
What you'll be doing
As Senior Design Manager, you will:

- Develop and manage the project design strategy, ensuring the design provides a winning and deliverable solution.
- Lead and coordinate the Design Team, including the management and integration of M&E design elements.
- Manage consultants, third-party designers and novated design teams, ensuring designs meet project and customer specifications.
- Review the competence, capability and resources of external design teams where required.
- Provide advice and guidance on the buildability of design proposals across all project packages.
- Work collaboratively with construction, commercial, planning and building services teams to identify and resolve design challenges.
- Manage design information to ensure it is produced and released in line with the construction programme.
- Liaise with statutory bodies and authorities including planning, building control and utility providers.
- Identify design risks and opportunities and work with the wider project team to develop effective solutions.
- Drive collaboration between consultants, subcontractors, the customer and project delivery teams.
- Champion innovation, continuous improvement and digital ways of working throughout the design process.
Who we're looking for
We’re looking for someone with significant design management experience and a strong track record within the healthcare construction sector.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager on major construction projects.
- Healthcare project experience, with an understanding of the design complexities and stakeholder requirements associated with healthcare environments.
- Experience managing design through pre-construction and project delivery.
- Strong experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, including architectural, structural and M&E / building services disciplines.
- Excellent understanding of construction methodology and the ability to challenge designs from a buildability perspective.
- Experience managing external consultants, subcontractor design and novated design teams.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to build effective relationships with customers, consultants and project delivery teams.
- A good working knowledge of BIM and digital design processes.
- Experience working with current forms of procurement.
- Detailed knowledge of relevant construction regulations, codes of practice and industry standards.
- A valid CSCS card.
- Relevant professional membership such as RIBA, CIBSE, IET or another appropriate professional body would be advantageous.
