Overview
The role of Lead metalworker is integral to ensuring the smooth running of Bakehouse Factory. As a key member of the workshop team, we rely on you to be part of the drive and overall vision of Bakehouse and to always have the best interests of the business in mind.
The organisation thrives on the collaboration of its core team to ensure everyone is working towards the common goal of producing high-quality events within the time and budget available to us. The workshop teams are expected to work collaboratively to ensure that they are supporting the workflow across production departments. As a busy events company, Bakehouse Factory produces a large number of events per year. The lead metalworker is responsible for the smooth running of the metalwork department, ensuring that any builds including metalwork or engineering are thought through, practical and robust. As we don’t have a year-round need for metal work, the role also supports carpentry throughout the year, for this the role would be scheduled by the Lead Carpenter.
The role generally takes its workflow from the Head of Workshop and must be able to work to deadlines, produce quotes for work and ensure projects are completed within set budgets.
Key Responsibilities
● Work with the design team and production teams to plan and cost up metalwork projects.
● Work with the design and production team to spec build methods for metalwork projects
● Order materials and ensure the metal workshop has the correct tools and equipment to carry out efficient work
● Ensure good housekeeping in the metal workshop and any other workshop spaces as appropriate.
● Work with the lead carpenter on woodwork projects as workload requires. ● Ensure that the tools in the workshop are working safely and that all electrical and mechanical elements are regularly checked and serviced; support across departments as required. ● Ensure external suppliers used are the best value for money
● Ensure that health and safety is prioritised in the workshop and that all equipment in use has appropriate method statements which are reviewed yearly or as required if sooner.
● Manage freelance staff in the workshop; providing a welcoming and supportive environment
● Take on an engineering role when brainstorming how to build set or prop items.
● Be prepared to do production installations when required (both overnight and daytime) sometimes taking the crew chief role. (This is unusual and would be discussed with you before planning in).
● Communicate your timetable weekly so it is possible to keep track of any overtime or time in lieu that is accrued through the day-to-day delivery of your work.
● Work closely with the head of installations to spec materials, build methods and ensure that builds are fit for purpose for install.
● Attend weekly production meetings and other briefings as required.
● Any other reasonable tasks as requested by your line manager.
● Be prepared to occasionally travel to live job sites for maintenance and upkeep
● Be willing to be trained in and operate machinery and plant, for example, Forklift trucks.
Pay: £35,000.00-£39,000.00 per year
