We are an Chartered Certified Accountants based in North London looking for an experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join our team.
This is a varied, client-focused role working across a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses, limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the day-to-day bookkeeping requirements of a portfolio of clients, working closely with our accounts team to ensure records are accurate, up to date and ready for VAT, management accounts and year-end accounts preparation.
We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable and comfortable managing multiple clients and deadlines, while also being confident communicating directly with clients when information or clarification is required.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients
- Processing purchase and sales invoices
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Maintaining purchase and sales ledgers
- Reviewing and reconciling control accounts
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns, including Making Tax Digital requirements
- Maintaining accurate accounting records for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
- Preparing bookkeeping records through to Trial Balance
- Assisting with month-end processes and preparation of management accounts
- Reviewing client bookkeeping and identifying discrepancies or missing information
- Liaising directly with clients to resolve bookkeeping and accounting queries
- Assisting clients with cloud accounting software and bookkeeping processes
- Supporting the accounts team with year-end accounts preparation and other ad hoc accounting work
- Ensuring client work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- Previous bookkeeping experience, ideally gained within a UK accountancy practice
- Good knowledge of bookkeeping principles and double-entry accounting
- Experience preparing VAT returns
- Experience with bank, credit card and balance sheet reconciliations
- Confidence managing bookkeeping for multiple clients at the same time
- Experience using cloud accounting software, particularly Xero
- Experience with software such as Dext, QuickBooks or Sage would be advantageous
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Confidence communicating directly with clients
- The ability to work independently while also being part of a wider accounts team
An AAT qualification or AAT study would be advantageous, but practical experience and ability are more important to us.
