Matchday Steward – Key Responsibilities and Expectations
Main Duties:
- Provide a warm, welcoming service to all spectators, offering information about on-site amenities (e.g. medical room, toilets, bars).
- Check tickets, assist entry, and guide supporters to their locations.
- Be fully conversant with stadium emergency procedures and operational policies.
- Keep entrances, exits, and stairways clear at all times.
- Monitor and manage crowd movement to ensure safety.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Report any safety concerns (e.g. capacity issues, intoxication, medical incidents, site breaches) promptly to a supervisor.
- Support and guide spectators during emergency evacuations.
- Complete all required training, including NVQ Level 2 in Spectator Safety.
Personal Attributes:
- Good standard of English (reading and writing).
- Punctual, dependable, and trustworthy.
- Positive, helpful attitude — willing to go the extra mile.
- Strong listening skills with the ability to retain key information.
- Confident working in busy, high-footfall environments.
- Capable of recognising problems and resolving them effectively.
- Able to follow instructions accurately from supervisors or managers.
Spectator Safety Steward – Roles and Expectations
Your Responsibilities:
- Deliver a friendly, helpful service to all spectators, providing clear directions and information about key areas including toilets, bars, and medical facilities.
- Check admission tickets and offer assistance at entry points, guiding attendees as needed.
- Understand and follow stadium emergency protocols and operational procedures.
- Ensure all entryways, exits, and staircases remain unobstructed at all times.
- Monitor crowd activity and manage movement to maintain a safe environment.
Safety & Incident Reporting:
- Report concerns such as capacity issues, disorderly conduct, intoxication, or medical incidents to your supervisor immediately.
- Support safe and orderly evacuations if an emergency arises.
- Successfully complete all mandatory training, including the NVQ Level 2 in Spectator Safety.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Communicates clearly in English (both reading and writing).
- Shows strong punctuality and reliability.
- Has excellent listening skills and can retain key information.
- Feels confident working among large crowds.
- Is proactive in identifying and resolving issues as they arise.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in hospitality or customer service is an advantage, though not essential — we welcome individuals eager to grow.
