The Hermitage Care Home is looking to recruit a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Cook to join our friendly team.
This position has been created to provide additional support to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality catering services within our home. The role is initially offered on a temporary basis, with the potential for a permanent opportunity depending on the ongoing needs of the service.
You will play an important role in preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals that meet the individual dietary needs and preferences of our residents while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present nutritious meals, snacks and desserts.
- Plan menus in line with residents' dietary requirements, allergies, preferences and cultural needs.
- Ensure meals are prepared to a consistently high standard and served on time.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness in accordance with Food Hygiene Regulations and HACCP procedures.
- Monitor food temperatures and complete all required food safety records.
- Manage food stock, rotate stock correctly and minimise waste.
- Report any maintenance or equipment issues promptly.
- Work within agreed food budgets.
- Ensure the kitchen is clean, safe and organised at all times.
- Work closely with the management team to provide a positive dining experience for residents.
- Follow all Health & Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, and COSHH procedures.
- Undertake any relevant training required for the role.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous cooking experience (care sector experience is desirable but not essential).
- Holds, or is willing to work towards, a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Has a good understanding of food safety and allergen management.
- Is organised, reliable and able to work independently.
- Can manage their workload in a busy kitchen.
- Has a caring and compassionate approach towards older people.
- Is flexible and willing to support the needs of the home.
