Site Manager: Refurbishment Project, York

R1 Construction is looking for an experienced Site Manager for an upcoming refurbishment project in York, commencing in October 2026 and running for approximately 18 weeks.
Due to the secure and sensitive nature of the project and site, the successful candidate will be required to complete a DBS check and BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check prior to commencing on site. R1 Construction will arrange and support the successful candidate through the required checking process.
The Role
We are looking for a capable, hands-on Site Manager with strong refurbishment experience who can take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the site, coordinate subcontractors and trades, and ensure the works are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing and coordinating all day-to-day site activities
- Managing subcontractors, trades and site personnel
- Monitoring progress against the construction programme
- Ensuring works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and required quality standards
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety and site compliance
- Carrying out site inductions, toolbox talks and regular site inspections
- Coordinating deliveries, materials and site logistics
- Maintaining accurate site records and documentation
- Liaising with the R1 Construction project team and relevant stakeholders
- Identifying and resolving site issues to keep works progressing efficiently
- Ensuring the site is maintained to a professional standard throughout the project
About You
We are looking for someone with:
- Proven experience working as a Site Manager
- Previous experience managing refurbishment projects
- Strong knowledge of construction health & safety requirements
- Good organisational and programme management skills
- The ability to effectively manage and coordinate subcontractors and multiple trades
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- A professional, proactive and hands-on approach
- SMSTS
- Valid CSCS card
- First Aid at Work certification
