Responsibilities
- Operate shot blasting equipment to clean and prepare concrete surfaces efficiently and safely
- Set up and adjust blasting machines according to project specifications and surface requirements
- Inspect finished surfaces for quality, ensuring they meet company standards
- Maintain equipment by performing routine cleaning, troubleshooting, and minor repairs
- Follow safety protocols diligently to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work environment
- Assist with material handling, loading, and unloading raw materials or finished parts in the warehouse.
- Document work activities accurately, including production logs and maintenance records
Requirements
- Mechanical knowledge with the ability to understand equipment operation and troubleshooting
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication techniques
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and quality checks
- Experience or familiarity with material handling procedures preferred
- Knowledge of construction painting or surface preparation is a plus
- Ability to read technical drawings or assembly instructions is advantageous
- Strong attention to detail, safety consciousness, and a proactive attitude toward learning new skills
About Us
Specialist Surface Preparation is a UK-wide subcontractor specialising in concrete and asphalt surface preparation. Based in Scunthorpe, we work across the UK on major infrastructure projects including multi-storey car parks, bridge decks and other civil engineering structures.
Our role is to prepare surfaces prior to waterproofing and protective coating applications carried out by our clients. We operate industry-leading equipment and take pride in delivering high-quality work safely and efficiently.
Projects You'll Work On
Our work includes preparing concrete and asphalt surfaces by removing old coatings, waterproofing systems and surface contamination before new waterproofing or protective coatings are installed by our clients.
Typical projects include:
- Multi-storey car parks
- Bridge decks
- Highways and infrastructure projects
- Commercial and industrial structures
What We're Looking For: Essential
- Full UK driving licence with a clean driving record.
- Own transport to and from our Scunthorpe yard.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home during the week.
- Able to commute working the occasional weekend.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors.
- Reliable, punctual and eager to learn.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable: (Not Essential)
- CSCS Card (training can be provided if required).
- Previous construction or labouring experience.
- HGV Class 2 licence. (not necessary for this role but a bonus)
- Experience using hand tools or working on construction sites.
